For the past year and a half I have made it a point to stop in to crema for my daily dose of coffee. While it happens to be conveniently located right in between the school where I teach and my home, I would easily go out of my way just to get coffee from them if need be. I'm just lucky I work and live so close to this wonderful Denver establishment.
When I first starting frequenting crema, I was new to drinking coffee (after being a long-time mate drinker). The staff at crema not only served me delicious, well-made coffee, but also provided me with information about what I was drinking, and what the best way to drink it was. I think sometimes for the "new coffee drinker", especially when the coffee isn't as good as what they serve at crema, a great deal of cream and sugar is put into the beverage, because that's how one drinks coffee, right? Wrong! The staff at crema has taught me that a good cup of coffee doesn't need all the cream and sugar and isn't just about the caffeine. It is about the experience and enjoyment, the different flavors and tastes and the passion behind an age old beverage. Yes, the staff at crema has made me a bit of a coffee snob, but in the best sort of way.
The prices are great, the decor is funky and welcoming (with circulating Denver artist showings and lovely woodwork), and the coffee is just so damn good! Plus, as I mentioned above, the staff is knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the coffee they serve. It is rare in this fast-paced world to find a place that will take the time to educate and provide one with the drink they need. I can go into crema and say, "How is the best way to drink this?", or "I really need a lot of caffeine, what's the best drink to get?", and be met with a genuine, honest reply. P.s. If you need a lot of caffeine, try the iced toddy. It is delicious rocket fuel to get you through!
No matter where I live in Denver, I will always make it a point to stop into crema. And...
Read moreLove the chai, coffee, and seating areas at Crema, but the service at the register has consistently been disappointing. On my last visit, the cashier guy with the wild dark hair — was super distracted and rude while taking my order. He got it wrong, then made it seem like it was my fault (it was just a hot oat milk chai — not complicated). Obnoxious tone, etc…
After I ordered, he rudely asked/instructed me to wait on the patio for my chai I guess in an effort to clear space inside since it was a bit crowded near the pick up counter and he said he’d bring my drink out. I waited over ten minutes, went back in, and found my “hot” chai sitting at the counter, now lukewarm. The place had emptied out, and no one had bothered to bring it to me. I called another employee over and explained what happened and also to confirm that this lone drink was indeed mine (no name on it) and he stood there dumbfounded. I picked up my drink and left to head home to put it in the microwave 😠
The staff at the register/counter come off as careless and checked out — not what you expect from a spot with such great drinks and food. Disappointing experience. Do better dude. Do...
Read moreMy wife and I went to as many coffee shops, cafés and roasteries as we could while we were in Denver for a week, and Crema Coffee House stands alone as our favorite place that we visited.
There are three specific reasons: Their representation of the coffee roasters in Denver. Crema Coffee House offers such a wide range of coffee options that if you just got your coffee here you would be able to get the majority of your Denver coffee tour completed in one place The organization, skill and professionalism of their employees. I appreciate when a batista knows what they are doing behind the counter, and the team behind the counter at Crema Coffee House knows what they are doing, knows how to provide information to customers and understands how to work together during a busy rush. The non-verbal communication and collaboration between the team members was refreshing to watch The food was great! My wife is a sort of picky eater, but the breakfast burrito and sweet potato waffle stood no chance after she tried them for the first time. This is the only place we visited twice on our trip, and I will be visiting again if I can in the...
