Awesome must see museum! Take the kids. Bring your non black friends. Make a afternoon of it then head to brunch to discuss the fabulous exhibits. Tuskegee Airman. Go learn their story. Jazz greats in Detroit. Go learn the story. Great venue for events. Visit the store . Become a member and enjoy the rotating exhibits.

Brace yourself for the exhibit on slavers. Look at it this way…. If the died and endured their capture and transportation to another world ….. YOU can at least take the time to learn about the atrocities!

Reflecting on years past, I recalled a time when the museum primarily drew African American patrons. However, today, its appeal transcends boundaries, drawing in a wonderfully diverse audience.

The museum has undergone significant enhancements over time, with more exciting updates on the horizon. It stands as an invaluable educational resource, offering profound insights into African American history. Witnessing children eagerly engaging with the exhibits, jotting down answers to their teachers' assignments, was truly heartening. The presence of individuals from all walks of life further underscored the museum's universal significance.

I was delighted to see school buses diverting their routes from the science center to The Wright, highlighting its growing prominence as an educational destination. The museum's gift store proved to be a treasure trove, where I couldn't resist purchasing a book and a cozy sweatshirt.

Parking, conveniently available on the street, was plentiful and felt secure, adding to the overall positive experience. I wholeheartedly endorse a visit to The Wright, particularly urging educators to prioritize it as a must-see for students. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and frustration following my attempted visit to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History this past Sunday. According to your published schedule, the museum was supposed to be open until 5 PM. However, upon arrival with my interracial daughter and a group of friends, we were shocked and dismayed to discover that the museum had decided to close at 1 PM instead. This decision was not only poorly communicated but also left many visitors, ourselves included, feeling disrespected and disregarded.

As we stood in the lobby, we observed a steady stream of individuals and families arriving with the same hopes of exploring and learning from your exhibits, only to be turned away. The abrupt closure seemed to stem from a decision made by what we can only assume to be inept management who were not even present that day. This hasty choice, likely made from the comfort of their homes, was not only thoughtless but also showed a blatant disregard for the public and the museum's own mission.

If the goal of the Charles H. Wright Museum is to foster understanding and improve public perception of the Black community, this action represented a resounding failure. This is Michigan. A few inches of snow is hardly an anomaly. It is unacceptable for a renowned institution such as yours to succumb to such a minor weather inconvenience, especially without proper communication to the public.

I had hoped that with time my frustration would dissipate, but it has not. The experience left me and those with me deeply disappointed and questioning the professionalism and reliability of your institution. We left feeling that the Charles H. Wright Museum is not, as you may claim, part of the Great Detroit Comeback.
