spent 1 night here with a friend for a concert at the Fillmore. we went in with incredibly low expectations after reading all the reviews but were pleasantly suprised! no blood stains or bugs in our rooms. no weird guys in the parking lot hassling us. we definitely had a better stay than we expected to have. PROS -RICH THE SHUTTLE DRIVER! they offer a free shuttle service! we were able to safely get to and from our concert at no cost (except for tips) it was amazing and a HUGE perk which honestly took an okay hotel experience to a great one. rich was super friendly, a safe driver, incredibly knowledgable about the area, easy to contact, and quick to arrive. -staff was great. we did not have much interaction with them but when we did they were super nice! -location was great. super close to where we needed to go. -free breakfast! it was nothing crazy, basically just juice, coffee, cereal, and toast/bagels but honestly that was all we really needed anyways. -our door had a chain lock. for two 22 year old girls staying in detroit alone this made us feel a lot safer -free wifi -convenient parking -easy and fast check in and check out process -cute lobby area CONS the shower floor was a mess. i put down a towel because i was worried it would cut my feet. -there were a few questionable stains on the bedding. -slight smell in our room but not too bad -ac and heating system was a nightmare.when we got to our room it was 75 degrees and as 2 girls who were drinking and who are also notoriously sweaty to begin with, it was kind of a nightmare. we turned the thermostat from heat to cool and within 10 minutes our room's temp had risen to 85 DEGREES!! the vents were blasting out the hottest air i have ever felt in my life even when it was set to cool. once we set the thermostat to "off" the hot air finally stopped and the room gradually cooled off. later in the night we were a bit chilly and decided to switch the thermostat back to heat but nothing happened. we had to actually set it back to cool to get the hot air back on. the shower water temp was super weird. i had it set fairly cold given how hot the room was and i didn't mess with the temperature for my entire shower, yet it constantly randomly went between ice cold to burning hot. not a big deal but just something to note. all in all this hotel is exactly what i'd expect from a cheap hotel...
Read moreSo a few months back, i reserved us a room downtown Detroit for last night through one of the online sites. It was on special for $89 instead of $120. It didn't look super new, but pictures made it look stayable. It was close, and had a free shuttle service to downtown. We arrived, the building was old and outdated. We thought it was just the ambiance. Well we go up these rickety stairs to our room. We open the door and immediately see that it's extremely small. We were wafted in the face with hot air. The temperature was NINETY degrees. 1 of 4 lights worked. Then we noticed all the other disgusting attributes. Besides the room smelling like a smoke session had just occurred, there was literal dirt in every crevice. Stains all over the sheets and blankets, mold on the coffee machine. The bathroom was broken and filthy. There was a gap between the door and wall you could see through. You could hear everything around us. We called for the shuttle 5 minutes after being there because we got into town late. Upon arriving at dinner we made the conscious decision to book a different room in Lansing. That way we'd be closer to home in the morning. Went to the show, and then shuttled back. There was like a scene from Fast & Furious in the parking lot. 2 parties right under our room with their doors open just smoking and drinking everywhere. I Went in grabbed our stuff, and gave our keys to the front desk. The girl said she couldn't refund me because her manager wasn't there. We left. Called this morning and she was going to give me a partial refund because technically we occupied the room from 645 to 1130 (even though we weren't in the room). I put an immediate hault to that and finally got my refund. With that being said DO NOT stay at Rivertown Inn & Suites. Unless you want to bring a hooker or shoot up. I will say, the two front desk (which was behind bulletproof glass) people we dealt with were very professional and kind. And the shuttle driver was the nicest , most...
Read moreGreat stay for the price! Clean. Flipped mattress. Checked edges of. No Bed Bugs! No Free breakfast, but Coney Island restaurant attached to hotel. Open Mon-Sat 7:30am-1pm. Good food. Good prices. Great service. Nearest other restaurant, 2 blks going towards. Pappa's Pizza may be permanently closed with limited hours. And liquor store next door. No salads, yogurt or fruit. Just chips, liquor and pop. Wendy's drive in only is 5 miles down in same direction towards Belle Isle. Order from Door Dash.
Rooms clean. Furniture, microwave and tv old. Fridge cold. But again old. Coffee maker worked. Stayed for 2 nights. No cleaning of my room. But, clean towels, linen and iron at front desk. Makayla J. took great care of me. She works various shifts. Young, but professional and articulate.
Other drawback: WIFI extremely weak. Connection in and out. Traffic on Jefferson on the weekends can get loud with motorcycles and loud music from cars. Kids sometimes loiter at times in parking lot with loud music and cars.
Greatest deal: Rivard street in front of the hotel takes you down to the amazing Detroit Riverwalk two blocks. You can explore by walking, rented scooter or bikes the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor with all types of interesting plaques telling the history of the biosphere, animals and fish of the ecosystem of the Detroit River. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets with boaters and jet skiers showing off.
You can grab a snack. Put the kids on a merry go round or let them chase each other while you people watch. Felt super safe and I walk with a cane. Scenic and fun. Overall, great location for the price. Safe. But, not...
