Excellent service at a fair price. Because they are excellent they have a backlog of work. I stopped by one day and filled out a work order for updating my hard drive from a 250GB to a 1 TB Solid state. I was given an estimate ($250) and told they would give me a call when they were ready to work on it (estimate 1-2 weeks). The computer itself is a fairly old Dell (12 years) but more than adequate for my needs of email, spreadsheets, etc. Because I use it every day I wanted to leave it off in the morning and pick it up in the evening. About a week later I got a phone call saying they were ready. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up in the afternoon. The job was done perfectly and the solid state hard drive is sooo much faster. Start up time went from ten minutes to one minute. Most importantly they were able to clone the old hard drive so that I didn't need to reload any of my programs. The computer with the new hard drive was exactly the same as the old drive except much faster. Really better than buying a new computer which would have taken me at least a week to get set up with the dozens of programs I have on my computer.
Now, remember that you are dealing with computer geeks and I mean that in the most positive way possible. Here are some things they could have done better. On the day I dropped it off I arrived at opening time and had to wait about ten minutes for anyone to show up. I decided to stop by again about an hour after I left it off to see how the cloning was going. They hadn't started it yet because they couldn't find the original work order I filled out the week before. I filled out another one and then they started working on it right away. They said they would call me when it was ready and when it got fairly late in the day I called them to make sure it would be ready. "Just finishing up" they said so I was able to get it that day. Instead of $250 the total was $270 as there an SSD frame not included in the original quote. So I give them five stars because they are competent when it comes to computers and the price was fair. Their cloning charge of $100 was half what another computer service quoted me.
So, overall two thumbs up but just be aware that the process may not be quite as smooth...
Read moreFirst, if you are looking at this, then you should read all of it; you will find this very helpful. I needed a place to take my laptop, so I did some searching on the net. I took the time to read the reviews for each place I considered. The reviews for Dover Computer Repair (DCR), were very compelling for me to use them. As stated in at least one review, they were very helpful on the phone and in it of itself, I found them the go to repair shop. They know what they are talking about and they know just how to repair your computer the first time out.
I took my 5 year old laptop to them to replace the display cable. As promised, they had the job done in a few hours. All of the DCR employees are very knowledgeable and I found that they also have integrity, people you can rely on and the best part is, you get more than you expect. When I took my laptop home and tried it for the first time after the repair, I discovered that not only did they repair it, but they made it look as good as new and work as good as new. I’m telling you my machine was so clean, I could have had dinner on it. The display was clean as a whistle, the keyboard has never looked this good expect for the day I bought it. My fans were all cleaned out and you can barely here them run. Yet my machine has been well used for 5 years and after service at DCR, like new, really!!
Last thing you should know, they will not cheat you with an absurd price for the repair. If you are unsure as to if you can afford the work, talk to them, they can most times tell you upfront what it will cost. They are well worth your time to give them a call, you won’t be...
Read moreThese other reviews do not mirror my experience at all so I guess I wonder what I did to deserve such terrible service. I emailed them about a problem I still have with my laptop. Maybe it wasn't a pricey enough repair for them to take seriously, I don't know. It took them about 3 weeks to email me back. That should have been a sign. They said it would be an "easy fix, $25", so I said I would drop my computer off on the following Monday. The kid who accepted my computer seemed distracted and uninterested. He told me it would be 2 weeks and I almost took my computer back on the spot.... 2 weeks for a simple fix (their words)!? Anyhow I waited the two weeks without hearing anything from them. After two weeks and a day had passed I called them and left a voicemail asking for an update. By 1:30pm that day I still hadn't heard anything so I called again. I spoke to an individual who seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. Almost like they hadn't even checked their voicemails. He then informed me that my computer hadn't even been looked at yet. I promptly told him I was coming in to get it... To which he asked "today!?". Terrible customer communication. When I asked him for an update he said "we don't NORMALLY do that"... I wanted to be cool and support a local business and all that. Just wish my business had proven important enough to them to actually DO what they said they would in a timely manor. Never again. After all that my computer isn't fixed. Thanks for...
