My husband and I took this tour and it was so beyond anything we imagined. It was SO MUCH BETTER than going with a more commercialized tour agency!! The tour guide is a wonderful woman who is close friends with a few Amish families. If the families are available (she told us when we booked of they were) she will take you to meet them and see their homes. Everything is done so respectfully and we were lead to two Amish households during the tour. We got to meet them and talk to them and it was lovely. The women at the Amish homes sold their own handmade items from their homes. We bought canned jams and foods out of a cupboard in one womans home, and the prices were amazing compared to market prices. We also saw a quilt display in one home and we were able to shop hand sewn items. I even bought a handwritten amish cookbook! My husband and I love historic and cultural tours and this is by far the best. We were able to ask questions throughout and we learned SO MUCH that only someone close with the Amish families would be able to tell you. Super affordable, super informative and so much fun. Thank you!!!...
Read moreWe stumbled onto a brochure and was pleasantly surprised at the value of our tour. $65 for our family of four to follow the tour guide for 1.5 hours. She communicated with us by 2 way radio and talked to us the entire time about the culture of the Amish. We learned SOOO MUCH! We were taken off the main roads and to the heart of the Amish community. We were allowed to go into two families homes and have conversation with the families. My 9 year old enjoyed the barn and getting to see the carriage up close. I really enjoyed learning more about their way of living and the views were breathtaking. My 16 year old came alive when we saw the things that they made with their hands. We got to go to a market and the prices were unreal. This tour saved us a lot of money on our souvenirs. Cathy was such a delight. I’ll be telling everyone visiting Lancaster about this tour company. This was the highlight of our three...
Read moreIn this tour, you drive your own car and follow behind Kathy's car. You use a walkie talkie, and she unloads tons of information about Amish and Mennonite culture as you drive along. You stop at a few amish homes, and go inside and talk to the owners. It's all very personal, respectful and real. She is close friends with the people whose homes we stopped at, which is why you have access to normal Amish people's homes. This is the anti-commercialized tour. Everything is real and felt very special. This experience surpassed all our expectations, mostly because Kathy is so passionate about her friends and she shares so much insight in a short amount of time.
When setting up your time, let Kathy know what you'd like to see and she will tailor your trip. She added a stop to a craftsmans house just for us, and it was a great stop...
