AMT in House Production of Ovation - Fantastic I took my family to see a 10:30am Wednesday performance of Ovation at the American Music Theater in May and it was one of their best shows. (We have been going to AMT for years and have seen over 10 different in house productions – so this statement does not come lightly.) Ovation is running through October 2019. The two hour performance plus a 15 minute intermission - showcases 28 different songs so there is something for everyone. I was able to get $15 tickets as part of there TAX Day promotion back in April but regular tickets are reasonable at $35 for adults and $17.50 for children. I lucked out and was able to get three front row seats for $45.
Ovation places the AMT band front and center in this production. They even take the musicians into the audience at the start of the second act for Bolero. While there are some new faces to the 9 piece band it is as solid as ever. In this production the dancers and choreography play a supporting role to the band. This is the first show we said we would come back and see again – that says a lot for the quality of the performance. This is a fully live event, no lip synching and no background tracks. My personal favorite was Take Me Home that had the new drummer Jake Ritchey front in center of the stage. What a powerful performance that connected the rhythm to the audience and showed the Jake was a showman. Being in the front row we received a different experience but there is not a bad seat at AMT as we have sat in almost every section through the years. We sat in the direct line of the Trombonist Sam Yoder and my daughter enjoyed the strong brass sound. A special thanks to Molly Grace B who gave the rose to my daughter. It is also a nice touch to get to speak to the performers after the show - make sure you check them out afterwards.
As for parking - the staff gets the cars in and out as best they can and they do a great job. Everyone at AMT is friendly, from the gift shop to the ticket takers - it is the Lancaster way.
When in Lancaster - we always go to AMT and you should too! DO NOT miss this AMT...
Read moreMy husband & I purchased tickets to the riverdance show on the 25 Feb. Our tickets were Mezzanie- Left T 118 & 119. We got there early because my husband has health concerns. Once seated my view was the back of a lady's head. She was in a handicap spot for a wheelchair but she was sitting on a very high walker. Other folks with walkers were seated & the ushers took their walkers to the back wall. There were others around me with the same issue. Even my husband had trouble seeing. I as well as others asked if they could move her to the end or even place her in a lower seat but I was told they couldn't do anything. I ask about a refund because I would not be able to see the show & was told to go to the box office. I'm sure a refund would have been out of the question. We got up to leave and noticed chairs against the back wall & asked if we could sit there. There was more discussion with the ushers but they finally left us sit there. During the show it was constant people & ushers going back & forth in front of us with flashlights. Very distracting. We would not have had to deal with that at our original seats. Others moved for the same reason we did. I have nothing against the handicap, my husband is, but feel that the theater could have done better. Many people moved because of the situation. She was not in a wheelchair but sitting on a high walker. The show was awesome but wished we could have enjoyed it more at our original seats, which were more comfortable than the chairs we had. This was our first time there & not sure if we'll be back. There are some upcoming shows we would love to see but hate to pay money to have so many distractions & frustration. Have a...
Read moreAgain, we came to a show at AMT, this time Celtic Thunder and encountered a nasty parking lot employee. I have a placard and so I was directed to park in a certain space but he didn't make it clear which one. I started to pull in and he was waving his stick that I was supposed to be in a different space so I had to back up and move over one. Nasty looking face, no smile, just yelling and waving the stick. I was in the lot next to the bus parking. We go into the building and 5 feet in the door there are adult women with little and I mean little children sitting on a blanket on the floor. This was blocking handicapped people from walking safely and I cannot believe they were allowed to do this. Why were there little children attending a Celtic Thunder concert? I would expect young ones at a Blues Clues concert but not Celtic Thunder. The concert was fantastic and we enjoyed ourselves immensely EXCEPT for the little ones screaming and loud while people were enjoying the concert. If you can hear them over the music, they are too loud and if I would have been closer I would have asked for a refund or asked that they be removed. After the concert, nice parking attendant, very courteous and we were appreciative of that. Got into line to get out and other lines moving and ours...did not move for 37 minutes. I was finally able to leave that line and jump in another line and was out onto the highway in 5 minutes. This is not the first time we waited over a half an hour to move 5 inches. When my membership comes up for renewal I will have to weigh the good with the bad and see if it...
