Edit: Mike the owner contacted us back the same day and was very upset that we didn’t have the best time we could. We had a great discussion with him and plan to visit again soon since overall, our visit was pleasant, the staff was kind/courteous, and we caught a good amount of fish by visiting this pier.
Like I said in my original post, out of all the staff we only had the one encounter with the older man who was grumpy before getting to the end of the pier, and I understand when people get frustrated at work when people don’t listen to the rules of an establishment even though we were unaware of the ones we got yelled at for after our stuff was slung around. That wasn’t the way to handle it from a customer service stand point at all. We will be more mindful and now that we know about the cart being either centered or against the rails, we hopefully won’t have the same issue. I do think there needs to be a sign as you enter any way onto the pier to stop misunderstandings like this from happening but I’m thankful for the owner for being so kind and understanding when we talked with him.
This being my first visit to the pier I looked over the guidelines on the outside of the building before going in where the ladies upon entering to pay to fish on the pier were wonderful. My group of 3 found a spot at the far end of the pier by the observation deck and pulled our cart to the side behind our chair leaving 8-ish feet of space between us and the other seat behind us to allow foot traffic.
About an hour after we were there or more, an old male worker came grumbling along the pier, snatched our cart and dragged it to the middle without so much as a word asking us to move our cart further out of the path, nor explaining why he did it, and pulled our cart to the middle of the pier leaving 3-ish feet between it and both seats. We pulled it back cause we didn’t know what his problem was with the giant space behind us and when he passed back by he loudly complained about having “moved it for a reason”. A few minutes later he comes back by to empty trash cans and started arguing with my husband loudly and not explaining anything before snatching the cart again and very aggressively yelled at us about moving the cart to the center or against the rails so it wasn’t in the way. We were literally in the seat by the stairs up so having our cart in the center was more in the way than where we had it for foot traffic as people went to the observation deck or past us to the end of the pier. My husband walked back to use the rest room and saw three other groups that had carts set the same way and they weren’t yelled at or corrected after the old man left us alone. The old guy had continued to fuss and fume all the way back down the pier from when he did leave us.
The staff are well aware of this particular staff member and stated that he “comes across rough”, but had it not been my husband and was someone with more of an attitude, he could have easily caused a fight with his rude behavior and throwing someone else’s property around. The staff members we spoke to also spoke to us about having another woman that “came across” the same way… so they knowingly employ rude people to work at the pier, knowing these people have an issue with their behavior.
This was my first visit to the pier, and honestly, I don’t know that I want to come back if the man or anyone else is going to be that way and not just use their words to ask someone to follow the procedures that they have in place that aren’t posted ANYWHERE easily visible like all their others are. Trust me I looked.
Two stars only cause the ladies inside were nice and we caught...
Read moreI have visited a lot of fishing piers in my 60years, with that said, Mike the owner May need to step back and do some retraining of his personnel. Rude is an understatement, it felt like, once they got your money they will treat you anyway they feel. Beware, the handful of guys or a cronies who live at the end of the dock will talk down to you as well as behind your back. These guys are obviously regulars who live there, one fella on an electric wheelchair was over the top rude. I just sat there and listened and I actually recorded these guys.. I witnessed a half a dozen guys upset because they were trying to fish off the end of the pier but it was completely overtaken by three or four fellows who were supposedly king mackerel fishing. It was actually comical to listen to the guys talking bad about The weekenders as they put it. Maybe the king mackerel fisherman should move to the sides and make room in the center of the dock at the end for the guys trying to fish for Spanish mackerel and blues. But no, three guys took up the entire end of the dock. And they talked nasty about anybody that tried to fish and how they fished. Now let's move on to the staff I witnessed people being talked down to asking simple questions as to how the parking passes work. I also witnessed a gentleman standing there being ignored and told they would get to him only to take others before him. I also witnessed a gentleman asking a lady who was cleaning the bathroom how long it would be before it was ready, she responded. " If you keep asking it's going to take even longer. I never in my life have seen such rudeness. THIS BUSINESS WANTS YOUR MONEY BUT WILL TREAT YOU LIKE A DOG ONCE THEY GET IT....
