Oceanview Inn — Hotel in Emerald Isle

I've stayed in nasty places before. but this one was terrible. The pictures on the website are totally misleading. There really isn't an ocean view. You get a view of a parking lot. Pictures on the website showed a nice wood floor....in reality, it was a nasty carpet that smelled of mold. The kitchenette consisted of a microwave and a refrigerator. Whereas, I was looking for a school of dolphins from the "oceanview" room, what we got was a school of flies swarming the room. The AC was on its last leg, the room wouldn't get cooler than 80. The manager claimed that was because we lowered the thermostat in attempt to get the room to an acceptable degree. She said that caused it to free up. She assured us it would work better at night (after the sun went down)... no duh. The type of clients the hotel attracted is questionable at best. Neither my wife nor I felt safe leaving our car overnight in the parking lot. When we told the manager that we were unhappy, she turned off our wifi, so we couldn't find another hotel in the area. To her credit, she did return our money when we checked out. I'm assuming, that the positive reviews on this site, are fictitious reviews... the place was...

We had never been to Emerald Island NC. We went to celebrate our 36 years of marriage. We paid over four hundred dollars at the Ocean View Inn for two nights. What a horror house it was! The policy does not give money back for dissatisfaction. Now we see why. Problems: Door hinges were completely rusted, front inside door was filthy, with bottom front door inch high high inviting bugs. Front door inside covered in dirt and stains, wall next to bed covered again with dirt, handprints, gross! Shower curtain rod was rusty and moldy, toilet was loose at the base and moving when sitting, hole inside the sink, under sink was black stains and mold along the base boards! Tried to clean the chair wood to sit down and the cleaning cloth came back black with dirt. We stayed one night and left first thing next morning. So arrogant for staff not to let us know the condition of our room. So Insulting! No wonder they had space available. People leave and they get the next customers to be fooled! Scam!...

I have been coming with my family to this hotel/motel for 20+ years and my family has been coming here 30+. The view is amazing, and is right in front of the Bogue Inlet pier/ Surfs Up restaurant. It has several beach access points and walking distance to main road for shops (Wings, ice cream, berts etc). They have made many cosmetic updates in the last few years. The customer service and room service have much improved these last few years! The rooms/ bathrooms are very clean and neat. The only downside is the WiFi connections. It always keeps kicking us off and is aggravating to log back in. I wish they had a better provider in that department. The price is "okay." I think its so high in $$ being right at the beach front, but that's about it. They got rid of the pool several years ago and if they had kept it, I'd say the price would have be reasonable for the amenities offered.
