Great Wall — Restaurant in Emerald Isle

First and last experience I’ve ate at many Chinese places. And the simple dish of sesame chicken has always been my go to.. anywhere I’ve ate. It’s always the same! Always good! Well let’s just say I don’t know what I was given but it sure wasn’t the sesame chicken I was wanting and expecting. Extremely dry chicken and sauce. What ever sauce was on it. No flavor at all! The poor chicken was so dry it soaked all the whatever sauce it was up... not only did it soak the sauce up.. it emptied a soy packet as well. Don’t know if it was previous used.. or what? nor do I want to know. I’ve been in the restaurant business for over half my life. 25+ years. So for me to write a negative review..takes a lot. I’ll stick to the Chinese place in cape carteret. Ate there once since moving to EI. Made the mistake of trying the one here in EI... definitely sticking to cape carteret!

I did order the crab Ragoon .. good but extremely skimpy on the filling. And crab needs to be taken out of the name..

I remember what crab ragoon use to be. And if that’s any Recognition of what it is now.. I won’t ever waste money on it...

We’ve been eating here for 20 years or longer. New owners the past two years and hasn’t been the same but always pretty good! This week we went in for our normal, Orange chicken combo and Mongolian beef combo. It was horrible! My chicken was so dry I could barely even eat three pieces before I said I’m not eating anymore. I will just eat my pork fried rice. Well, the pork fried rice wasn’t edible, just didn’t taste right and really dry! My husband said his Mongolian beef just didn’t taste right either. MUSHY and tasted like it had been thawed out and re-froze back in the freezer multiple times. He put it to the side and tried to eat the rice, well one of the pork pieces in the pork fried rice was so bad he thought he was going to be sick! I never would complain, but this was so bad I never want to eat Chinese for a very long time! So we brought it back to tell them about it she takes my food behind the counter and starts inspecting it and said you ate some of this, so I’m gonna have to charge you I said OK so she gave me half my money back and kept the food which is disgusting!! NEVER GOING...

So we went there on Tuesday, July 11th. My brother ordered the lo mein noodles and took them to the car while I ran into the surf shop. My daughter and I got back to the car and he had about 3/4 left and said we could have some. He gave my daughter a few bites and then I took one. I went in for another and looked down at my pea pod to see a small white worm. We all instantly wanted to cry/vomit/scream from the nastiness we were feeling. I took the box back into the restaurant and showed them. The lady in the front said she would make us more. No thanks. I said he wanted a refund and she was like well I don't see why, he ate almost all of it. I told her that next time, she should put the worm on top and then we won't eat it 🙄. I snapped on them and eventually got his money back. So disgusted. It wouldn't of been so bad if she wasn't instantly rude the second I showed her the worm....
