Booked a ticket with assistance for needs due to a handicap I have. Emeryville Amtrak refused me the assistance. When I tried to make them at least give me a alternative of minimal assistance they also declined. Forcing me to carry and pull my two suitcases, a carry on and my purse from inside the station to one of the furthest lower level handicap seating carts. I had bags twisting and had something go wrong in my back. Spontaneously I broke out crying from the pain. All the while trudging to a cart. The female attendant that refused to help me drove by me twice in the little luggage cart. Only when I was in line did a male attendant come running down to help me. Loaded my bags in the lower level handicap seating and helped me get seated. I cried the whole time. But when he placed my bags he said when you get to your destination tell the attendant and they will help you get your bags off the train. He was very kind. But damage was done. Took 2 hours for pain to stop. Fell asleep with both my feet totally numb. Then when I woke I needed to use the restroom. I went to get up and couldn't stand. The young man seated next to me had to put his arms under mine and lift me while I heald on to the set ahead of me. Took me about 5 minutes before I could shuffle to the rest room. When I got in there I noticed my underwear full of blood. Which part of my handicap restriction was from having a total hysterectomy a couple weeks prior and wasn't supposed to lift of anything over 10 lbs. So I realized I had caused some damage to what the call the cuff. I felt it. The pain and cramping. I made it back to my seat knowing I would have to go to doctors. More then likely. I was upset for all I had endured due to Amtraks neglect of my handicap. Insult to injury. I get to my stop. Klamath falls, OR. and when I ask the assistant for help just lifting my luggage to the floor to I could roll it. She refuses. Said it's not her job. I tell her my situation and that I am having trouble even walking and that I am bleeding. She said, how much do they way. I say I told you they wouldn't help me so I'm not sure but I know they were underweight on my first trip and I had gifts for 5 people in there so I'm sure they are maybe 40 and 25 lbs. She still says no i won't lift them. I say we'll can you get someone to help me. She says not my job. You will have to find someone. Again I say I can hardly walk. She ignores me and walks away. Meanwhile while she was still there the 4 people in my cart were hollering at her. Telling her she was out of line and rude and she wasn't doing her job. They all gave me their Info in case I needed them to tell what they witnessed. So I go to find someone to help. Shuffling along. I go to step off train onto yellow step and I'm having a hard time with balance. I reach out with one hand to her to help steady me and she drops her hand and looks away. I cause myself further increased pain as I twist when I stumble off the step. I look at her and say wow, thank you. She smiles real big. I walk about 15 feet and see a female employee who helps me with my bags. I here the first girl tell her I told her I could help with small bag. Iam in horrible pain, tears flowing and I say no she did not. She just said not her job. My fiance walks up. He loads up and when I look up both female employees are standing together at my cart and looking at me and laughing. So if you are handicap, WHATCH OUT FOR AMTRAK! NOT ALL OF THEM FOLLOW AMTRAK POLICY OR ARE ADA COMPLIANT. SHAME ON AMTRAK FOR EMPLOYING THESE PEOPLE. This happened on Feb 9, 2024 and I turned it into Amtrak while on train. Then after the same day. I had to go to the doctors within hours of returning home. Then ER the next morning. Saw the chiropractor 3x this week. Was pit on steroids, pain meds and muscle relaxers. But still have heard NOTHING...
