Just a business thought for the old Mall: The Mall: A Blueprint for Community Revival! 🌟✨ The mall has closed down, which is truly sad. My big hope is what they do with that giant, soon-to-be-demolished lot. Instead of just flattening it, imagine the possibilities that polls suggest locals want to see! First, we desperately need more medical specialists (including non-profit dentists & primary care) who accept Medi-Cal/Medicaid. Instead of driving 5 hours when sick, imagine if those huge defunct store spaces became non-profit medical centers! Doctors could set up entire practices there, offering vital specialist care. This would be a massive tax write-off for the mall owners and a game-changer for our community's health. Non-profits like KUNA from town, or others currently operating out of churches, could utilize separate store spaces—again, non-taxable income for them, a write-off for the mall. :-) Beyond that, think a dynamic community hub featuring a strategic mix of big and small businesses: Farm-to-Table Businesses: Imagine a vibrant section dedicated to local farms and mom-and-pop food businesses, supplying organic meats, produce, jams, and other items directly from our area. Massive Fun & Entertainment Center: This is where the real money could flow! Picture a multi-faceted center combining paid attractions with community resources: Family/Kids' Area: Arcades, mini-golf, laser tag, paintball, go-karts (outside!), even water event areas. Adult/21+ Zone: Adult arcades with alcohol, smash rooms, axe throwing, darts, pool tables, escape rooms. Think a Dave & Buster's concept, with restaurants, wine tastings, and space for people to unwind. Integrated Community Care & Learning Hub: This is key! One storefront could house a daycare on a sliding scale (free/income-based to full price) and a teen center. This healthy hangout would keep kids and teenagers engaged and out of trouble. Another storefront could be a non-profit mini animal rescue, offering a space to meet adoptable animals and selling merchandise to support their cause. Within or adjacent, dedicated spaces for tutoring & classes would thrive, offering art, sculpting, STEM, tech (leveraging free/non-profit online programs from Google like graphic design), writing, music, cooking, etc.—some free/non-profit, some charged. These would be invaluable for anyone seeking new skills for better jobs. Convenient Shopping Logistics: A central service could be implemented where shoppers can either have their groceries/purchases held in temperature-controlled storage while they enjoy other mall amenities, or submit a list for workers/DoorDashers to fulfill via app/direct to store, allowing for a quick, pre-paid pickup on their way out.(Even if you just shop somewhere else, you can store your groceries, protected in the freezers while utilizing the other parts of this community facility) This truly feels like a perfect, viable plan. They could also extend the existing Walmart, open a Best Buy, host drive-in movie nights, and utilize vast outdoor areas for flea markets, community events, and professional photo setups. This integrated major area generates money, secures tax breaks, and significantly helps the community, creating much-needed jobs, boosting tourism, and bringing crucial money to the area, instead of just...

Read moreATTN PLEASE: THIS is NOT BAYSHORE MALL (that 750,000 sqft Mall is "Down the Hill," on the...wait for it...BAY-SHORE! This WAS Eureka's 1st Mall, w/ nearly 30 stores & a Central Covered Interior Corridor, dating FROM the 60s).
NOW THE REVIEW (Here @ 800 West Harris-NOTE this is NOT ON BROADWAY): Its a GOOD Strip Mall NOW, with decent Stores, including the best-priced large Grocery Store on the West Coast - Winco (which ran Safeway OUT from a satellite building by the 2010s), and a small, but well-stocked Dollar Store. The "Happy" Donut Shop across Central from the Main Structure is good, but still a far cry from the Winchell's that once graced the Front of the building for 30 yrs, but times change.
Tuesday Morning (located near what WAS the OLD Rear-North Entrance) is a Great Store, and a Treasure, depending upon constantly changing stock - inc. EVERYTHING from Dog bowls to Gourmet Chocolate!
CVS is unexciting, no matter how you slice it, when compared to the once VERY Popular Payless Drugs (Complete with a Post Office) that was in that Anchor spot for c.40 yrs. But, for a CVS, its better than most.
Parking is a dream here, but LOCK YOUR CAR, and Leave Nothing Visible (as the entire Region NEVER recovered from Devastating loss of Timber-Related jobs).
Do not plan to eat at either "Mall." Go Downtown Eureka, for a variety of local restaurants to choose from.
AGAIN...This is NOT the BAYSHORE. This Shopping Center - "Mall" (A Legacy Name Only) - is not the SAME as the LARGE BAYSHORE MALL on Broadway, LOCATED down the Hill. Please, CAREFULLY check the ADDRESS, BEFORE Reviewing in the future, as many reviews HERE are for that much...
