I bought 2 purple pillows and a mattress from the store in Fairbanks. I didn’t think to look online prior to the purchase, but also planned on spending a little bit extra to shop local. Well, not only were the pillows over 100 dollars more a pillow online (the store told me after the fact that with shipping it will come out close to the same. I have not done the research, but 100 dollars to ship a pillow seems a bit much) I honestly didn’t look at the price of the mattress because I don’t want to see how much cheaper it was. I noticed Costco had a purple mattress (a cheaper one) for about 700 less than the cheapest one I saw at Sadlers. Now to the actual problem. When I went to pick up my mattress the next week, I mentioned that one of the 2 pillows I bought was extremely thick and stiff (it was almost double the size and 3 times more stiff than the identical pillow I bought with it. I asked if there was a way to exchange it or something. The employee looked at the computer and said, this is the second time THIS pillow has been returned! They then said “oh, I probably shouldn’t have told you that”! I said excuse me, this pillow was purchased new. Long story short someone had ordered the pillow, got it in, tried it and had the same exact problem. I had noticed the box had tape on it but had really not thought much of it. Fortunately I had kept the box and it even had the other persons name and a pick up date of 2 months earlier. They claimed that when it got returned it must have accidentally got put back in stock or something. This was the point that I looked online and realized how overpriced they were (again, my fault for not looking online first). I talked to the manager and the “fix” was to replace the used pillow and they did give me a 200 dollar compensation. While it was nice of them, I’m still just disgusted that they sold me a used pillow even if it was an accident. I would have done a lot more to take care of my current and future customers. With all the bad, I would like to point out that the 2 employees and the manager were all at least very polite and respectful. I truly hope this was all an accident, but when I picked up the replacement pillow, I was told from a different worker that it was also the second time a refund and payment was made for the same pillow, and it made me angry again because it was the same person that sold it to me. I don’t know how their system works, but he definitely noticed it had been returned when I did the return, but never mentioned it when selling it to me. We had also looked at a 7k sectional that day and planned on going back to purchase it after getting some measurements, however I will be looking elsewhere(I am not one to write reviews, but that was the first and probably the last time I...
Read moreAfter buying a house, my girlfriend and I spent a huge amount of time looking for new furniture that 1: Was high quality and would hold up to a lot of use and 2: Looked nice and had enough options that we could match it to our space.
We sifted through online sources (home depot will order furniture in for free), all of the Fairbanks in town furniture shops, used (Craigslist/ FB / Yard Sale), and the conclusion we came to was that most places were either poor quality, or extremely expensive, or both (why does Bailey’s look like it’s always having a closing sale??).
I honestly expected online to be the way to go, but Shipping via Carlile Myconnect or the many other options for getting furniture to Alaska from the name brands in the lower 48 worked out to be far too expensive when the quality of the pieces were largely unknown and shipping costs made returns unrealistic.
Ultimately after a lot of time spent looking we found that Sadlers had the best mix of quality, price, and surprisingly good customer service. We talked to a number of people there who were all fantastic, but Tony was our guy. Tony did an amazing job of walking us through the process, resolving any issues that came up, and keeping us in the loop for the couple of pieces we ordered that had to come from the Anchorage store (which they ship to fairbanks free of charge). The service from Tony was really incredible, and took all of the stress out of the process.
The delivery fee is $150 (at the time of this review) regardless of how much you order, and is really a fantastic deal if you’re picking up a lot at once. They haul it to you, and put it together, and the delivery crew does a great job of assembling everything, looking it over, and being careful with your space.
The only other place in town that seemed to have pretty high quality furniture was furniture warehouse, however their pieces appeared mismatched, and their value and service fell short of sadlers. Some of Sadler's pieces may not be as high quality as what we ended up with, and some were definitely much nicer, but overall they have a huge variety to choose from that seems to be mostly long lasting stuff. From what we found you get what you pay for at Sadlers, and without the Fairbanks gouge, which is fantastic.
TL;DR: We looked at a ton of options for a house worth of furniture, and Sadler's was by far the best. Make sure you see Tony (look at your toe, then look at your knee and you’ve got it),...
Read moreFurniture selection is nice. prices are either super high or OK. sales staff is friendly enough, BUT complete BS about delivery policy. I live in Delta Junction and they absolutely refused to deliver, even for the additional money I was willing to pay. They will go as far as Salcha, which is almost halfway but no further. I don't see why they couldn't setup a program to just do a once a month delivery or something OR charge more for delta. Baileys does it. 250 bucks gets anything I want delivered and assembled to delta. What makes me more upset is I asked the sales rep about it and informed them I wanted to speak with a manager to ask if they would consider my situation and willingess to pay more to have it delivered AND offer the suggestion they setup a system to help people who don't live within their standard service area and the sales person was just like "Too bad. hes not in today." didn't offer to leave him a message or call him or even remotely care about my concerns. Just the standard "oh you live outside our area? sucks to be you, maybe you could rent Uhaul" That in my opinion is a very closed minded business. If a customer is purchasing $3,000 worth of product (or any amount for that matter) and you can't even entertain the thoughts of helping him get the furniture to his house. At the very LEAST they could have even offered me business cards of other companies that they partnered with who could offer the service? Nope, didn't give two craps. are you gonna buy it or not? if you do, its your problem - that's sad and I hope one day Sadlers is bought out and replaced by someone who DOES care about the little guys from time to time.
Sadlers is fortunate they had the only sectional in town My wife and I could agree on or otherwise it would have been baileys and it would have been...
