USA Travel Guide | Must-Visit Alaska Chronicles Part 2 Anchorage to Fairbanks Day 1: Anchorage - Anchorage Glacier Hike: I detailed this in my previous post on Xiaohongshu, highly recommended. You can scroll back for more, so I won't elaborate here. Day 2: Anchorage - The Alyeska Resortšļø: A ski resort nestled in the mountains. The scenery is breathtaking, a must-visit for skiers. Even non-skiers will enjoy it. The hotel offers around 10 gondola lines, allowing you to hop on and off as you please. Taking photos, enjoying the views, and strolling around are great options too. It's an hour's drive from Anchorage. The gondola ride is $30 for unlimited all-day access. Hotel guests can ski for free. It's said to be one of the top 10 ski resorts in the U.S. Watching others ski down slopes around 70 degrees was incredibly thrilling. - Wildlife Conservation Center: You can see all kinds of rare polar animals in their natural habitat. Drive yourself into the park, a 30-minute drive from the city. Admission is $15 per person. Day 3: Anchorage ā”ļø Fairbanks - Winter Aurora Railroadš: A day on the train, a 12-hour journey on a sightseeing train. If there's one thing I don't fully recommend, it's this. The train didn't quite match my expectations. The sightseeing train only has large windows by the seats for viewing, but the scenery wasn't particularly stunning. I was fortunate to see some bighorn sheepš, but compared to the 12-hour journey, it's not worth it. It's highly recommended in summer. Summer trains are double-decker with a 240-degree panoramic glass viewing area in first class. You can reportedly see the changing seasons along the way. Winter only has standard class, which I don't recommend. Standard class is $200 per person, first class is $400 per person. Day 4: Fairbanks - Aurora Viewing: Uber driver recommended North Pole Pineline. In fact, many places offer good views. Just keep in mind three things: 1. Clear skies, 2. Dark surroundings, 3. Northward orientation. - Chena Hot SpringāØļø/Ice Museum: Chena Hot Spring gets a perfect score from me. Soaking in a hot spring in a -20°C snow-covered world is an incredible experience. The feeling of ice and fire is amazing. Your hair will eventually freeze, and the steam rising from the water with frozen hair looks ethereal in photos. I was too impatient to wait for that moment, haha. Admission is $15 per person, open 24/7. The Ice Museum is right next to the hot spring. Not recommended, it's quite boring. Skip it if you're short on time. The only highlight is the apple martini served in an ice glass. Admission is $15 per person, the drink is $15. Ran out of space, will continue in the next post. #OffTheBeatenPath
