I grew up in the Fargo Diocese. To my parent, this church was a source of community, but as an adult, I recognize the homilies follow a Republican agenda rather than simple faith. A few examples include a focus on anti-choice/anti-women's autonomy, which I believe created single-issue-voters that got us into the political mess we're all being subjected to now. My family witnessed financial exploitation (detailed below). I recall prayers limited to Israel, never the region or humanity in general - which would benefit the entire Middle East. And sadly, misogyny (a priest asked me if I went to college to meet a husband).
A priest asked for a $100,000 donation and suggested selling farmland (the source of income supporting my parent's medical/nursing-home care) to pay for the donation. At one point, the church invited my parent, with no financial background, to be on their finance committee. This was when we suspected they were being included to be a cash cow, feeding off of intense guilt and obligation to donate.
I understand churches may accommodate to political leanings of the local community to maintain support, but I look back, and wish they would follow the Vatican, or better yet adjust to the needs, current state, and reality of society in general. If your family member is a part of this organization, please make sure they do not become isolated within it. We moved away and looked past the aforementioned issues in favor of the friendships my parent craved. There are better places to grow spiritually, find peace, and hone a sense of community. This church benefits from the erosion of church and state and enforces Republican talking points rather than a message of love, faith, hope,...
Read moreI went here one time when I was in Fargo and it was great, some of these reviews are invalid, like of course there's going to be bells, and sorry to the guy who had his car towed, lastly the guy complaining about Republican views being expressed by the ministers, kinda doubting the claim because they don't bring an any example of what talking point that was, but even if it was true, you shouldn't complain about it because I myself have experienced several Catholic Priests express their left wing views in either the prayers of the faithful or homilies, and I mean a lot of times, so just because one may do somewhat do the opposite even though I highly doubt it, it's perfectly fine as long as it's not expressed too too much because a lot of Churches do it even though they know better not to, and a lot do it pretending they're neutral and the message of the lord...
Read moreA caveat, this is now our parish so I am a bit biased. The church is beautiful inside and while the high altar was removed years ago in a VII "wreckovation", much of that damage has been undone. This church also has more Confessions than I have ever seen, both before seven and noon on weekdays---yes, twice a day---and on the usual Saturday. It has four Masses on Sunday, 8; 10;12; and 2, the last one being the Latin Mass, which we attend. The parish is huge and very active, with both Religious ed and social events, and a food bank. There is also a chapel with 24/7 Eucharistic adoration. Very welcoming, too, and the website (it is the capital of the Archdiocese and residence of the Bishop) has great information about doctors and other community helps...
