Enjoyed the concert that didn't require a cover charge, nor were the cocktails overpriced. Their Maple Bourbon Old Fashions were amazing. Very enjoyable.
I thought the bar itself was poorly designed as staff was tripping over each other in a highly congested and small area--this didn't compromise our enjoyment of the evening, but perhaps slowed service. I thought it might be better if they didn't have stools in that area so patrons could order drinks without leaning over or between other guests who'd elected to sit there. I otherwise wish they had table service, which would have been preferable for our group as someone was always gone getting cocktails.
I like the fact that there was no recorded music played between sets so we could converse.
I thought they could have had a few more of their barrels in the concert area that could be used as tables for guests--we pulled one over for our group of six and it was perfect for as we'd otherwise have not had a table on a busy Friday night. Perhaps a few more chairs as well.
An area that some people tried dancing on was carpeted, which made no sense.
They had a good looking display of their products on tables next to the exit door--but anyone could have grabbed a bottle on their way out the door. Seemed dumb to me. Beyond that, are people leaving really going to stop and take a bottle and return to the busy bar area to pay for it?
All that said, we'll be back! It's a nice place. Staff was friendly and the music wasn't too loud for our...
Read moreIf I could give zero, I would. I planned a Christmas surprise night on 12/21 with my girlfriend, from Waukesha, only to arrive at Yahara and see the doors locked and lights off at 4:00pm on Saturday despite their hours posted as 1-6pm. NO mention of being closed on their website. NO mention of being closed on their facebook page. NO mention of being closed on the phone. In fact, even calling their number doesn’t work because they don’t have any outgoing message set up. What kind of business is this? They even have a folding sidewalk sign out front that says yes we are open! Just a disgustingly poorly run business. I will never buy spirits from this puke business again, and I’ll be telling everybody I can about this experience. I ask Santa that a meteor...
Read moreI honestly stumbled into Yahara Bay Distillers with zero expectations, just looking for an easy spot to unwind in Madison. What I found was an absolute gem that completely blew me away. I'm so glad I found this place!
The atmosphere was so laid back and unpretentious. The bartender was incredibly friendly and you could tell they were passionate about what they do. Nels had a wealth of knowledge and guided me through a tasting of their spirits and offering great insights on each one. Every spirit I tried was top-notch. I especially loved the Part & Parcel Rye Whiskey; it’s turned me into a rye guy!
If you're in Madison and looking for a unique, local experience with amazing spirits and even better people, Yahara Bay is...
