While the cleanup continues, there are signs of life. The high rise condos look like they are receiving attention, but only two are accepting visitors. There remains many buildings that must be demolished and removed. On the gulf side, there are many open spaces that used to be homes. Many lots are for sale. On the bay side, some of the big newer homes are all done and look fine, the smaller homes are either gone or in disrepair. The shops in Times Square are under construction. A few restaurants are open, not many. Publix has reopened. Bowditch Point Park and Lovers Key remain closed as of this writing. The new resort, Margaritaville, will be open by January. Much construction going on everywhere. I would say it will be at least 5 years or more until a sense of normalcy returns. Thatās if the hurricanes stay away. Sanibel is slightly ahead of FMB. Itās very sad for those who lost homes. This writing is as of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGorgeous beach, really neat and lively area. Downtown FMB is full of vibrant colors, funky restaurants and bars, and gift shops galore. Itās nice because itās literally all right off the beach, so you can walk around to all the places nearby. The beach is HUGE. There is so much room that even if there is a ton of people itās easy to spread out and not feel too crowded in which is nice. Something I didnāt like was that there were lots of beer bottle caps all over in the sand, and considering thereās kids running around thats really a concern. I donāt know if itās normally like that but I hope not. Thereās lot of shells too, the little spiral ones are absolutely everywhere, I found a handful within a couple minutes which is fun. Also there was showers/ places to rinse off, and bathrooms at a lot of intervals which is super nice for after you leave the beach. Great place,...

FMB is a flatter beach, so the descent out into the Gulf is gradual. Great beach for kids, of all ages, but especially the little ones.
The easiest to find facilities are towards Times Square. We like parking down past Lani Kai, across from the Beach Bar. It's $20 for the whole day.
We have found all the sea shells available on Sanibel here on FMB. I highly recommend trying differing parts of the island. The Publix is a great place to grab food and drink, if you're packing a cooler, and the...
