Our visit to Shipwreck didnt start off too well . You are directed to "Check in" parking in the back of building. There is no designated spots . There's about 6 spots utilized for guest parking as well. It's a very small area and people parking wherever they can find a spot makes it difficult to turn around if you dont have a compact car. The front of motel is on a busy street with metered parking so if cars are parked there, there's no where to stop and drop off your luggage because the paid parking lot is a big haul around the corner. You will find yourself lugging your suitcase on the busy sidewalk. Our rooms were 45 and 46 which was an obstacle course. Someone in our party slipped twice because the surface was slippery from the rain. The paver roads are uneven and fills up with water. Was pretty upset with the check in process as the "pay at hotel" rate was not the same as what I was quoted on Hotels.com The girl told me were being charged for two children. Room one had 2 adults, one 5 yr old. Room two had one adult and two children. I inadvertantly put there ages as 13 and 16 on the reservation as I had booked for a friend that I hadn't seen in a long time. They were 11 and 17. She said Expedia said to charge extra person fees. I showed her my quote. From Hotels.com. The extra $20 was principle. I had a quote, nowhere on any booking app or website or fine print of the motel does it say that a parent with two children 17 and under will pay "extra person charge" I asked her to honor the price I was quoted with Hotels.com as there were no extra persons. Two kids travelling with their parent. She told me that she could not adjust it because it would affect their commission. I explained again than the quote I received did not make me happy and I was upset that she was worried about a commission. There was no apology that n a 4 capacity Deluxe queen room I was paying for two children. Just directed me to the horrible parking lot that was gravel, flooded from the rain and shared with the general public.
The rooms are nice, clean but very small . A beautiful shower. It's been updated. They also told me they plan on taking out the pools in August . So we wont be back for the reasons. The gift shop is very nice and reasonable. There were also alot of outside people that came in to use the pool . They were drinking with bottles of alcohol and playing football. There were 10 of them making it impossible for our small daughter to swim. no employees walk with people that ...
Read moreIF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LUXURY HOTEL, THIS ISN'T FOR YOU. However, on a budget, you can stay at The Shipwreck in comfort and have a variety of dining choices within walking distance.
Each August, a large group of us would spend a weekend at the beach. Our group ranges from ages 10 all the way to 75. We used to stay on the beach at a competitor that was not as clean, friendly and helpful as The Shipwreck.. When we called and explained what we were looking for, the front desk was very accommodating. Our group had enough people that we were able to book a block of rooms that surrounded one of the pools so if we were up half the night, we were not bothering other guests. The pool area was clean and well maintained and There were plenty of shaded seating areas outside of the pool area and a couple of BBQ Grills.
The rooms were clean, well maintained. Air conditioners were in working order , the beds were comfortable and clean. No bed bugs and no stains on pillows, cases or on bedding. Extra Pillows & blankets were already in our rooms which was nice.
Some might think it loses something not being directly on the beach but with 2 swimming pools and the beach so close you can walk there even with little ones. We found the pool and social areas to be most enjoyable The only downside for me is the bathrooms in the rooms are quite small. You have a tub with shower, lavatory and pedestal sink was a bit shallow so I had to rinse my hair in the kitchen sink but that one issue is not enough to be a deal breaker.
We would love to do another weekend again soon. If we get the chance, you can bet we will be calling...
Read moreAlways have loved staying here but this time the A/C has stopped working in the middle of the night. (Room 30) Of course it's a hot summer night. There is no one on standby to even speak to about getting a fan or possibly swap to a different room. The windows are screwed shut so can't even open them for some kind of air circulation. It's 2 am and we are now debating wether to pack up and leave or tuff it out. Sad because we have always enjoyed staying here but no air is miserable. Otherwise quaint little place to stay out of the mainstream beach goers, yet close enough to walk everywhere. Update! So I spoke with the desk clerk and informed them what happen. I was told I'm sorry that happened but unfortunately we do not have staff available after 11:00 pm to address any issues. I will speak to management on Monday morning and call you. Well they called and said we can give you a 10% discount on your next stay. That's basically $30 off if you stay off-season I guess I'm just aggravated that it was so miserable and the only remedy was to leave early and go home. There are no ceiling fans or Isolating fans, the windows were screwed shut and they just didn't seem to care because they got there money upfront. Lesson learned I will now make sure I ask upfront before I book a stay if they have staff available during night hours and if fans are available if not will be taking mine from home...
