Didn't know why I was there but glad I was.
Turns out on a holiday road trip with my Pop he requested I find the closest best buy. I thought he needed something." He's kinda a recluse, lives on his iPad." He tells me to grab a sales associate. So I reach out to someone I can relate to. Tall skinny guy with 2" diameter grommets in his ears. I don't have the grommets but I thought about it. So anyways,my pop sees who I called over and says; much to my surprise, no not that guy. I ask him why and he I know where that stuff leads. I said really where's that, and he furrows his brow in concentration trying to find the right words and in jest I say, what drugs and deviation. And he says yes.!! Let's just say that he lives in Texas I live in California. He voted for Trump I did not. Always thought he was a little more tolerant. Don't get me wrong. He's a Texan to the bone. Born in Odessa Texas in 1940. Military family Texas A and M. Vietnam combat veteran. So needless to say he's seen some stuff. Sorry, I love my pop. So I tell him no, I am not going to tell this obviously intelligent young man no, my Dad is a bigot and thinks you are degenerate. Turns out I'm glad I did. This young man knew his business. I kinda figured he did. I mean he wouldn't be on the floor right, I hope. He helps my father, turns out he is buying me an iPad for Christmas. I've always been an Android guy. I bought an iPhone 12 and took it back in ten days and told them that I will never use 99 percent of what this phone is capable of. I've always been behind the curve when it comes to having to have the latest tech. I've always gone with Samsung, Motorola, Dell and Lenovo for all of my mobile telecommunications and computer hardware and software. I told this young man this and he hooked me up. Basic navigation, home screen and such in such an easy way that even I,a sixty year old computer illiterate who's own cognitive computing skills have seen better days, could understand and retain! So yes this is a 5 five star review for Best Buy in general, but more specifically the Best Buy in Amarillo Texas where this young man helped us. Kudos to Best Buy for giving a guy who looks a little different a break. And to the store in Abilene Texas, where we stopped the next day because every time I tried to open my account it would say invalid date?! Really! I've been accused of a lot of things but being invalid was never one of them. I don't usually shop at Best Buy but if you do then you know that you have to make an appointment for in-store geek squad support and we were on the road. Dilemma. I walk up to the counter sit down, wait till another young man glances over, I get his attention. As he approaches he asks me if I have an appointment, I tell him no, he says the next available is not for more than 2 hours. I ask him if I can ask a quick question. He says sure, I had already loaded the page, I flipped the screen around and showed him what it said, his eyebrows raise, gotcha, hooked, one geek squad nerd. Curiosity will get you every time. You've heard the saying "curiosity killed the cat" well not too many people have heard the rest. Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back." Needless to say he Had to get to the bottom it. Turns out it was a software update issue. I would not have known where to begin. I'm confident I would have been able to resolve the issue, eventually. But it might have taken me a week,or two. Ten minutes later update downloaded. Another 15 minutes later update installed. And this was the last shopping weekend before Christmas. So hat's off to both the Amarillo and Abilene stores and to Best...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis particular Best Buy store is horrible, and I only say this because of a long pattern of bad service. I live nearby and it has been my store of choice for a long time, but every time I have gone in this store in the last 1-2 years, it has been a miserable experience and a giant waste of time. The personnel don't know much of anything about the products and often resort to reading the boxes when I have any questions, so I've learned to do all my research before hand and go to the store to simply purchase the specific item I want. The last 3 big ticket purchases I've made, OLED TVs and cell phones, have been infuriating and taken 45+ minutes just to check out because the personnel doesn't know how to check out their own products and/or flat out ignores customers (me) standing directly in front of them at the counter as the associates socialize with each other. Most recently I spent over an hour trying to buy 2 unlocked cell phones and no less than 4 people attempted to ring it up properly but couldn't get it to ring up for the price listed on the website (and in the process told me 4 different prices and tried to tell me I had to use AT&T Next payments even if I wanted to pay up front for the phone). I ultimately left the store upset telling them I would just purchase my phones somewhere else, and even after the hour of them fumbling around, the associate literally shrugged at me and just said "ok" rather than offering even an ounce of understanding for their wasting so much time. I caught the assistant manager, Ian, on the way out of the store to let him know how difficult the process was and that I've done a lot of business there and my last several experiences have been horrible and I won't be doing business there anymore, and he also literally shrugged and just said "ok" and didn't even attempt to find a resolution or offer understanding for the frustrations. Absolutely deplorable customer service at this store, even at the management level. I never 'get angry' with retailers because I know it's usually not their fault when there are problems, so it's not like I was a bad customer or yelled at them, or did anything that was rude, so it was even more shocking that one of the managers give the same horrible service. I went straight home and purchased $1800 worth of cell phones and accessories from Amazon. I have typically opted to use brick and mortar stores, particularly Best Buy, simply to support the local economy and help them not lose business to online retailers, but I will stop supporting Best Buy because of Assistant Manager Ian and his horrible...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to drop off my Apple product at this location because Apple Support created an appointment for me and told me to replace the battery it is $99. I get to the store and they are not compliant with the lifting of the state mask mandate and they have chosen to not allow citizens to choose to wear, or not wear a mask. I am told to wait outside in my car and someone will come get my Apple product from me and I wait and wait. I finally call to tell them I am outside and they say it is policy that I have to bring in my product to the Geek Squad counter in person, so I said they wouldn't allow me in the store, so how do they want to get my product. They said again that they will send someone to get it from my car. 20 minutes go on and I leave. The manager of Geek Squad calls me and says I'm sorry were you waiting outside for someone? I said I was, but I waited for 20 minutes and no one came so I left. She said that I waited because she couldn't find anyone who was comfortable working with a 'mask less" customer and she said she was willing to help me. I told her over the phone what happened and she said I would have to pay $300 for a fix that Apple told me would be $99. She said I don't know why they told you that. It is $300 for that service. I said why would someone pay $300 when they could get a whole new one for $100 more? So, I said I will take it somewhere else. I understand there are those who feel more comfortable wearing a mask even though the CDC says they do not help protect anyone from anything, but last time I checked, I was born in a free country where I am not required to wear a useless mask, so for a company to have such a huge ego that they think they can control me and all of the other free people out there is astonishing. I will make sure to tell everyone I know not to shop at Best Buy in any location for as long as you are taking people's freedom to choose away. Also, I called Apple Support and told them that you are charging $300 for a battery replacement and they said they have never hear of that before and all locations they have listed in their system says $99. So, I assume from that conversation that you are also scamming people's money. Sickening. Just purely sickening. You should be ashamed...
