I recently had a disappointing experience at India Cash & Carry in foster city that I feel compelled to share. On March 15, 2025, I purchased a box of tea bags, I was with my kid so I rushed & grab few things only to discover upon returning home that the tea bag item was expired—specifically, it had a sell-by date of January 15, 2025. Realizing the mistake, I promptly returned to the store on March 17,2025 with my receipt, expecting a straightforward return process. However, what followed was incredibly frustrating. The girl accused me of trying to return an "old item," despite the clear evidence of my recent purchase. I told her to check their cameras that I bought it from their store & that aisle I picked up that package just 2 days ago. It was disheartening to be treated with suspicion when I had done nothing wrong. To make matters worse, the owners daughter assumed I didn't understand her language and began talking to her mother on the phone about my return, using rude remarks that were clearly directed at me. This was not only unprofessional but also disrespectful, making me feel uncomfortable & unwelcome in their store. Adding to the absurdity, the cashier who sold me the item questioned where I had obtained the expired tea bags, as if I was hoarding the tea bags at home and waiting for it to expire so I can return the item. I found this particularly offensive, as it implied that I was somehow at fault for their oversight. They refused to take back the expired item and offered no apology for the oversight. Due to customers waiting in line. The girl felt pressured & used rude language & took the item from me & exchange it for some other item . Instead of acknowledging the mistake of selling expired products which I noticed on other reviews after today’s experience , they chose to accuse the customer. This experience was not just disappointing; it was downright shameful. I would strongly advise anyone considering shopping at India Cash & Carry to think twice. There are plenty of other grocery stores that value their customers and maintain proper inventory standards. I certainly won't be returning to this store & highly recommend don’t shop here. The shop owners think they can do whatever they want & treat people badly & sell expired stuff knowing no action will be taken by anyone. This is why the owner & his kids are so rude, arrogant & mean. Attaching the receipts to show when I bought it 3/15/25 & when I went back 3/17/25 to return/ exchange for some other item...
Read moreI am unable to reply to the store response. During my visit, I was not rude or disrespectful. However, I raised my voice when I overheard you speaking in your language with your mother, making comments about me . I think, It is my fault that I came to your store & did not check the date on one of the Tea Bags I bought. I don’t expect any accountability based on the other reviews I am seeing now. Your store is known for not taking responsibility and putting the blame on the customers. How conveniently now you have camera footage of me but when I told you to check the camera that I bought it from you & I picked from the aisle along with one another different brand tea bag just a 1.5 day ago. You did not wanted to listen. As I mentioned earlier in person, I bought two different brands of tea bags and was returning one because it had expired. I was shocked to find that, despite having the receipt and the item being completely untouched or unopened. You accused me and why do I care you don’t have that batch number in stock. It is not my problem that you don’t keep eye on your inventory. In the camera footage on Saturday you can clearly see I picked that item from your store & you scanned it. First of all. You were not taking the item back. However, you eventually agreed to accept the return after other customers were observing the situation. My advise to future customer please double check the dates on the product otherwise you will face this kind of harassment from the store people even if you have a valid receipt and the item was in an unused condition and you are returning the item after 1.5day. Anyhow, I've reached a point where I need to focus my energy on positive experiences rather than dealing with stores like yours, which take no accountability and are well-known for poor customer service on platforms like Yelp and Google. I wish you the best, but I can no longer support a business with...
Read moreToday I had my worst customer experience at India Cash & Carry, Foster City 94404.
We were so happy when India Cash & Carry was opened in Foster City. They have a kitchen from where you can buy cooked food as well. Initially, they used to give provide chutney with Dahi Vada or Samosa or Pakoda as these dishes are incomplete without chutney and everyone has different tastes- few people like food with more chutney and few with less.
Today when I bought Dahi Vada & Samosa, I asked for chutney and they refused in a very bad way saying "We do not give chutney and if you want chutney, buy the entire chutney bottle from the store". I have never seen such a greedy approach of a salesperson ever in the USA. If you are giving food service to someone, at-least give it nicely.
I asked them to return the Dahi Vada as I knew I wouldn't like the taste without the proper amount of chutney (green & red) in it- like the way I prefer to eat it. I also returned the Samosa for the same reason. I told them I don't like it without chutney and that's why I don't want it now. Listening to this, the guy at the counter (Indian Uncle) gave extremely unwelcoming looks to me and then the entire family started talking about me as if I did some crime which made me very very uncomfortable. I have never seen anyone with so much false ego. I never write reviews but wanted the owners to realize that they should treat customers nicely. More than anything if I am paying for food I expect good service, some respect (at least a smiling face). I was a regular customer but now never going to buy food from them again. I will prefer driving an extra 2 miles to the Belmont store (Namaste Plaza) rather.
Just because they have a monopoly here as there is no other Indian store competition in Foster City, doesn't mean they can treat their customers badly. So disappointing.
P.S. The Indian Uncle with specs is...
