If you bring your kids here, they're going to be romping mostly in the little fountain area. There's lots of places for adults to sit facing it, but nothing with a back on it to relax against. All the proper benches face AWAY from the fountain area. With my bad back, keeping an eye on my kid in the play area is physically miserable. I recommend - bring a lawn chair.
Also, the fountain area is on a timer, so expect wails of despair from your kids starting promptly at 8 pm. Adjacent parking available for free and a block away from the historical center, this park is very well located. The work isn't completed as of March 2023 (waterfront still closed off). Water fountains offer a small splash pad area for walkers (no soft surface). When we went on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, it was mostly a hangout spot, with groups of teenagers on the climbing nets. As such it was a bit intimidating for younger kids. It may be more appropriate...
