Supporting book sellers of all kinds is something close to my heart, so it's nice to have a chance to review a brick and mortar bookstore of the old type, individually owned and unique.
Like a beautiful library, my favorite bookstores are the ones that satisfy the eyes as well as the need to read. Riverby Books checks that box with its storefront and its interior. The floor to ceiling shelves, the genre-specific nooks, the cozy seating, the antebellum South architecture, and the promise of finding books you would not find in a chain store are all great reasons to make this particular shop a part of any visit to Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and the prices are reasonable. It's hard to find anything to not like there. And if you visit often enough, I suspect you'll find that the selection changes like the weather. It's something you just won't find in corporate...
Read moreWhat a cool bookstore!!! We absolutely loved our visit here - the staff were all so lovely, the books were affordable on our student budgets, the whole space is so welcoming and bright and peaceful. Stop in and check out the section that interests you or give yourself an hour or two to pick up a couple things, sit in the comfy chairs or on a window seat and really relax. There are three (and a half?) levels of books, each with its own charm and vibe. Seems like a great place for local history book, civil war history books, and children's books especially, though i don't actually read any of those things and i was very happy with the regular fiction i found. Restroom is available for customers. This is along a lovely downtown in Fredericksburg so you can wander in after getting some coffee or while waiting for an appointment or something. We can't wait for our...
Read moreLove this book store. The selection is vast and esoteric at times, though on the whole you can find most things authors you seek. Their fiction section is well stocked all the time and is constantly added to as far as I can tell. The books are affordable, though some can be a little pricey and their science fiction section is a little smaller than what I'm used to, but that's ok the store is still fantastic as a whole! All the sections are also meticulously organized which is amazing for a used book store! The atmosphere is generally calm with a lot of places to plop down and read whatever you find among the shelves. The basement is also full of children's books at very affordable price points so that's also a massive plus!!! This store is bar none my favorite place to kill time in when I'm in Fredericksburg and I'm more than happy to support them...
