I don’t usually leave reviews, but my experience at AMC Freehold was so appalling that I feel obligated to warn others. From the moment my family and I arrived, we were treated with shocking disrespect, and the conditions of the theater itself were equally disgusting.
First, the staff. There was one employee in particular – a young woman with short hair and glasses – who was unbelievably rude. She spoke down to us in a condescending tone and made inappropriate, borderline racist remarks that left us stunned. Instead of being welcoming or even neutral, she acted as if we were an inconvenience for simply being there. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially in a customer service role. The fact that AMC employs someone like this is beyond disappointing. I go to the movies to relax with my family, not to be disrespected and insulted.
On top of the disgraceful treatment, the theater itself was filthy. The floors were sticky and covered in spilled drinks and popcorn that clearly hadn’t been cleaned up in a long time. The seats were stained, and the armrests looked like they hadn’t been wiped down in months. Walking into the auditorium felt more like walking into a dirty bus station than a movie theater that charges premium ticket prices. Even the bathrooms were in horrible shape – overflowing trash bins, foul odors, and a general lack of basic cleanliness.
The overall environment was chaotic and unpleasant. Trash was piled up in common areas, employees were standing around chatting instead of helping customers, and there was zero sense of professionalism anywhere. It honestly felt like management had completely given up on maintaining any standards.
I’ve been to plenty of AMC locations before and never had an experience even remotely close to this one. AMC Freehold is hands down the worst movie theater I’ve ever visited. Between the openly racist and disrespectful employee and the disgusting state of the facilities, this location is an embarrassment to the AMC brand.
I will never bring my family back here again, and I strongly urge others to think twice before wasting their time and money at AMC Freehold. There are plenty of other theaters in the area that actually care about their customers and maintain basic cleanliness. This place should be ashamed of how...

I'm not 100% sure if this was because it was a late afternoon movie we attended and the theater had limited personnel ... but the theater was disgracefully filthy! Popcorn covered the floor in the snack areas, only ONE person behind the good counter, only a few cold prepackaged drinks (the refrigerated area needed to be refilled; as a matter of fact, the few drinks that were there weren't even cold)! It took 15-minutes to get a pretzel. When we finally got to or seats, they were GROSS!!! Popcorn, napkins, cupholders were filled with garbage and liquid! After "we" clean then off, we found ourselves 'sticking' to the seats - Just Appalling! The next part came 3/4 of the way through the Lion King when the sound went out! After 15-minutes, a few of the patrons came back from reporting the outage to management and only after another 15-minutes did they tell us the outage was a result of the storms and we would have to evacuate the theater. Questions; 1.) Why doesn't anyone from management monitor each movie to insure all is well? 2.) I don't believe it was the storms that caused the sound outage! Why would the sound go out with the video continuing to play - doesn't make sense to me! Do they have a separate power grid? - NOT! 3.) Why did it take so long to let the paying guests know what management was doing to fix the issue? I think because they didn't know because they don't monitor each theater! They just don't care to pay enough employees to do this!! I refuse to patronize this theater any longer; at least until they decide to take care of the paying patrons by cleaning the seats and food areas after each movie!
Just to add one more negative... (First time purchasing from concession) $7.99 for a Medium Popcorn! $14.99 for a Large 1.5lb pretzel!!! This is just Absurd... Just a "Rip-off"! NEVER EVER AGAIN...

Read moreI'm getting frustrated at the lack of movie-goer camaraderie and mutual respect for people who want to see a movie and not have CONSTANT interruptions from the crowd. Tickets for a single movie cost $15, without being an A-List member. You're telling me people pay at least $15 a head (not counting added fees) for an experience where you'll have to endure people talking on the phone (happened last night at Creed III 7:30 showing, theatre 8, 3/3/2023), loud talking from children and teens who have no respect for the movie nor people who want to hear what's going on, phones going off all the time. It's insane. I'm an A-List member and pay $0 for tickets, but I can't fathom paying a regular price, or now, AMC's new idea of charging HIGHER PRICES for the SAME SEATS THAT HAVE ALWAYS EXISTED, for this terrible experience. Going to the movies used to be nice. But now, you have to endure whatever the audience is going to interrupt and distract you with. Every week I see a movie, I wish more and more that the Alama Drafthouse was in more and accessible locations, because going to see a movie with respectable and enjoyable audience members is something I'd give anything for. I don't know what needs to be done, or how much writing this review does, but this theatre NEEDS to do better. I'm very frustrated and annoyed that nearly every single movie I go to will be GUARANTEED to be distraction filled. The only solution I can imagine is bringing in staff regularly to babysit every theatre, because nobody knows how to act in public anymore. This happened ONCE during the MANY movies I've seen at this location, which I'm still grateful for, and pray it happens every time I go....
