The Chamorro Night Market on Guam is a vibrant and culturally rich experience, offering visitors an authentic taste of the island's Chamorro heritage. Typically held on Wednesday evenings at Chamorro Village in Hagåtña, the market is a must-visit for both locals and tourists.

Atmosphere: The market comes alive with a festive and welcoming vibe. The combination of live music, traditional dances, and bustling crowds creates a lively setting that reflects Guam's warm, community-centered culture.

Food: A highlight of the market is its variety of local foods. Visitors can enjoy dishes like red rice, BBQ chicken, shrimp patties, lumpia, and kelaguen. Vendors also offer refreshing treats such as coconut water and local desserts like latiya. The market is an excellent spot for those looking to explore Chamorro cuisine.

Shopping: Artisan crafts, souvenirs, and handmade jewelry are abundant, making it a great place to pick up unique, locally-made items. Shoppers can also find cultural items, such as woven mats and carvings, that reflect Guam's rich traditions.

Entertainment: The market often features cultural performances, including traditional Chamorro music and dances, which provide an immersive experience into the island's heritage. Fire dancing and other modern acts sometimes accompany the festivities, adding variety to the entertainment.

Critiques: While the market is a fantastic cultural showcase, it can get crowded, especially during peak hours, making parking and navigation challenging. Some visitors also feel that more shaded seating and better restroom facilities would improve the overall experience.

Verdict: The Chamorro Night Market is an engaging and flavorful experience that captures the essence of Guam's culture. It’s a perfect evening destination for anyone looking to connect with the island’s traditions, enjoy local cuisine, and soak in the...

Chamorro Village: Still a Taste of Guam, Even If It's Not What It Used to Be Chamorro Village may not be the bustling hub it once was, but it still offers a taste of Guam's unique culture and cuisine. While some may lament the quieter atmosphere, it allows for a more relaxed experience, free from the overwhelming crowds of its heyday. The Wednesday night market remains the highlight, with a decent selection of food stalls offering local favorites like kelaguen and red rice. You'll also find vendors selling handicrafts and souvenirs, though the variety may be somewhat limited compared to the past. While the energy may be more subdued, the live music still provides a lively backdrop, and the overall ambiance is pleasant. It's a good place to mingle with locals, enjoy some authentic Chamorro food, and soak in the island vibes. Here's a breakdown: Pros: Authentic Chamorro food: You can still find delicious and traditional dishes here. Relaxed atmosphere: The smaller crowds make for a more laid-back experience. Live music: Enjoy local musicians while you eat and shop. Cultural immersion: A good opportunity to interact with locals and experience Chamorro culture. Cons: Less vibrant than before: The market has shrunk in size and may feel a bit empty. Limited vendor variety: Fewer stalls compared to its peak. Some stalls may close early: If you arrive late, you might miss out on some options. Overall: Chamorro Village is still worth a visit, especially on Wednesday nights. While it may not be the bustling marketplace it once was, it remains a decent option for experiencing local culture, food, and music. Manage your expectations, and you'll likely have an...

I remember the bustling hub of vendors and vibrant activity back in 2015, but now its just a mere skeleton of itself. Despite the reduction in the number of stalls, the essence of the market remains alive with the tantalizing smell of BBQ still permeating the air, a testament to the enduring culinary traditions of the island.

While the market retains its charm with the delicious scents and the opportunity to immerse oneself in Chamorro culture, certain elements have changed over time. The once-packed aisles of vendors have given way to open spaces, creating a sense of nostalgia for the market’s former glory.

One of the most striking features of the night is the loud horn from the rock climbing wall, which, while adding to the lively ambiance, can be somewhat jarring amidst the otherwise relaxed environment.

Despite these changes, the market continues to offer a unique experience with its array of local food, produce, and native handicrafts. Visitors can still enjoy the center court where people of all ages dance to live music, surrounded by Spanish-influenced architecture. The market also serves as a hub for the local community, fostering Guam’s culture and traditions.

For those looking to take a piece of Guam home, the market features items crafted by local artisans, including jewelry made from materials such as giant clamshell and basalt. The presence of a blacksmith and traditional Chamorro tools adds to the authentic experience.

While the Chamorro Night Market may have evolved from its bustling past, it remains a place where one can experience the heart of Guam’s culture, taste its flavors, and meet the artisans who keep the island’s...

Lots of food options here in Wed evenings. Shopping in a festive atmosphere. All local vendors. A must go for culture and food. Some Wednesdays may not be as good as others.

It's cool to go there and check it out. It is very tourist oriented. Jewelry is overpriced and so is clothing. I bought earrings for 50 dollars that broke as soon as I got back to the hotel. I also got my husband a shirt that I found on base 10 dollars cheaper. I was pissed!! Also, bring cash. They don't like card payments. There is a lot of food there that is worth checking out and is affordable. Lines are long though. If you bring your kids you're gonna spend some dollars, there's toys and slushies and Pokemon cards and all the expensive stuff.
