There are two entrances to the caves, both with gates on them. The gate on the right is locked but the gate on the left is open and you can enter there. However, the caves are now occupied by homeless people and their possessions. I entered a few feet and heard people moving around in there so turned around. It is probably best to just avoid the place as there is nothing to see from the outside and it does not seem safe to go inside.

A nice piece of preserved history. The sign says “Enter at your own risk.” but the doors are welded shut. However, someone has broken one of the bars allowing entry for a small person.

That heading should be "Japanese Caves", not "Coves". These caves/tunnels were excavated by the Japanese Engineering Unit, with much enlisted assistance. They were preparing for the American invasion, which took place beginning 21 July 1944, when the Marines stormed the beaches. The caves/tunnels are very accessible off San Ramon...

The caves are not open as they are locked with iron gates. Seems like a homeless hangout and I was by myself so a bit nervous and read the sign and left. Not much to see...
