Southern Prohibition Brewing — Attraction in Hattiesburg

Tried this establishment due to good reviews, reviews do not reflect my experience.

There is an outside area for seating and what appeared to be a play area for children, but we sat inside.

Upon arrival we were told to have a seat and use bar code to order. Good thing my wife had her phone, I didn’t have mine with me. I had planned on trying their beer, but no one to answer questions about their products or staff to assist you at the table.

Placed order and paid at the time of ordering, did not see a run tab button so it seems you have to pay for items as you purchase. There was a tip button for me placing my order, not like they have done anything to deserve it at that time.

Server brought food and drinks (we both had water) at same time, about 10-12 minutes after ordering. Cheese dip had been sitting in cup long enough for the thick skin to form on top. Egg roll was hot but wife’s pretzel was barely warm. Server returned once to remove dishes from table and ask how was everything. I didn’t respond, there were only servers and a bartender present from my observation.

The food was great! But the ordering just more than sucked!!!! I am very tech-savvy but I have to put in my own order????? What the heck???? So that was all I did during the night, barely had time for conversation with my family! Then with five people working there, three behind the bar, the appetizer came before the beer! We ordered four 4oz beers for a taste and they didn’t have a flight board. Very disappointing! And at the end, when I wanted to close my tab, the system automatically added 20% tip!!!! And we usually tip in cash! I didn’t even had the chance to change that! And the manager didn’t know how to fix the tab either! I am sorry! I love your beer! But I don’t think we will be back for a dinner! Nope! And we will have our beer at Ed’s in the future. This place has no atmosphere at all and we go to breweries very often!

The people were very friendly, the place is clean. You can do so much more with this!!! Do yourself a favor and thing your system through! BTW: all the employees hanging out at the counter couldn’t t even get our retake out order right. Instead of a case of SuziB they gave us Crowd Control…. Geeez get your act...

Walking in from the outside for the first time, this looks like a very boring place. But, luckily, first looks can be deceiving. There is a great initial room with tons of sofas, chairs, coffee tables, and amusing art. Then there is the bar area with more basic seats. And there is an outdoor area. We arrived at brunch time and were told to use the online ordering. It was a little confusing since the brunch came right up but not the other options. After getting that clarified, food and drinks came quickly. The drinks tended to be VERY sweet. They had 3 stouts---and they were all sweet. At least have one be a non-sweet stout? But the biggest disappointment was the food. My son and I shared the pork belly tacos. My son complained (correctly) about how salty they were. And the pork belly didn't really look edible even in the dim lights. My boyfriend had a better cooked sandwich, but it was also oversalted. I'm not sure that the ordinary cooks were there the day we visited--at least I hope not? In short, great atmosphere--I would just eat somewhere else first or hope we just came...
