In all of the USO's I have been to, this is the only location that I have been turned away and denied access. The reason for being denied was because i'm not active or retired, but hold a 100% ID card for being disabled. It was really a gut blow to the stomach when my family and I was turned away for that reason. I have served with many people who deployed back to back to the sandbox and suffer to this day that did not retire! If there is someone that has a purple heart for being blown up that is looking to sit down until their flight comes are they going to be treated that way? To be turned away because of that is DISRESPECTFUL!!! I understand active duty and retirees should have priority but this place was probably empty. THIS POLICY NEEDS TO CHANGE ASAP!!! ESPECIALLY because this is Hawaii and with the Military history here, they should be ashamed! To the USO, we have donated plenty, please fix...
Read moreI'm a retired US Navy, I travel everywhere and visited USO all the time I felt at home but when I visited USO Honolulu airport, I felt I'm stranger, at the door there's a sign and instruction how to open the door, I was reading it, staff open the door and ask for my ID so I show it to the staff and ask me a couple of question before I get to check in Desk, I noticed he did not do the same to others, after I went to toilet he look at me and give me the hand signal to open the toilet door, this is odd because he is watching me wherever I go, It felt that I'm not welcome, there's a lot of food but never offers food, I have to buy food and eat outside, I know this is volunteer work but do it open arms nuetrally, compare to other USO I didn't felt welcome...
Read moreI was embarrassed for this USO branch and our military community. I’m active duty, but they turned me and my wife away because her spouse ID was expired. They said “we just can’t know who she is or if she’s still your wife.” The ID was expired, but it still showed her picture and we were there together, so . . . The rudeness, the complete lack of awareness, and refusal to help out a service member and veteran, instead trying to embarrass me and my wife, makes me sad for them. USO means different things in different places, and I’ve definitely had different experiences, but this was the first time I’ve been actively disrespected. The USO management needs to come down hard on these folks and make...
