A Fun Experience!
We accidentally found this place while hopping from store-to-store in Hot Springs, AR. Visited with family while on a weekend getaway. Walked out with five different bottles of wine.
No cost wine sampling! Friendly staff who know their wine, without being snooty, and enjoyed sharing their product with the curious and the connoisseurs.
Let’s be candid, local wineries can be hit or miss, they can all taste the same/similar and are often disappointing from a quality-of-wine standpoint. The setting, the enthusiasm of the staff, maybe the band and the crowd, the overall experience, perhaps, make-up for maybe a not-so-good tasting wine. Then comes some low-level guilt that facilitates an obligatory purchase of at least one bottle, to show our love of wine, support for small business, help off-set the cost of a lot of inventory, and showing our props to the friendly staff.
In this case, Bathhouse Row Winery was a hit and they got something going-on. No pressure to sell. Not a single huff from the staff that easily poured our group north of 20 sample size glasses of wine. To be clear, there were three of us sampling and we sampled almost all 11 wine varieties.
I get it, it’s Arkansas wine! Don’t put it up against the French or California, but also, don’t skip over it. Keep visiting these wineries and you’ll find some good wine, plenty of stories and almost always a good experience.
As mentioned, we safely sampled 11 wines. While I tend to lean red, some great white wines were tasted. The other two in my party lean white and they were pleased with the reds.
Topping my list was “Old Mill” a wine made with an Arkansas grown grape called Muscadine. This wine can be a before, during or after dinner wine. Versatile, with a unique aroma and flavor. Potential to appeal to the red and white wine drinker without feeling zinfandel-ed out.
A close second was the “Majestic Merlot” which is a Merlot and Cab Blend. A definite for the red wine lovers.
Third was “Capone Red.” Yes, Al Capone. Hot Springs, AR has an interesting history/link with Al Capone that you need to Google, and should experience first-hand with a visit. Capone Red is close to a Church Wine as it is made with Concord Grapes which tend to be too sweet, but not this one!
I think the “Dogwood Moscato” would make a great base for a Red Sangria and the “Hot Springs White” would make for a good base for a White Sangria. Both of these wines are fine as stand-alone drinking wines. The other wines were good. Not a single one made me pucker or would never sample again.
Nicely done Bathhouse Row!
An overall fun experience. If you like or love wine, put Bathhouse Row on your short list of things to do in Hot...
Read moreI wish I could give zero stars. My sister and I just left this place and wanted a nice experience and to taste and purchase wine- DID NOT HAPPEN. There were no customers when we walked in. The two employees- a male and female- were extremely unprofessional and made it very clear they did not want us there. They did not welcome us or smile. They actually looked irritated that two African American ladies walked in. The lady whispered something under her breath to the man. We decided to leave. I doubt two caucasian females would have been treated like this. I'm so disappointed in this establishment.
Which winery? The Bath House Row Winery across from the Arlington Hotel on Cental Avenue- towards the end of Bathouse Row on the opposite side of the street from the bath houses. Please fix the problem. I've visited the area 3 times this summer and have had multiple negative experiences while attempting to taste and...
Read moreI recently visited this winery for a taste testing and had a fantastic time! Our server was absolutely amazing - super funny, helpful, and even offered to take our picture! The wine selection was decent, and while I only found two wines that really stood out to me, I appreciated the opportunity to try several varieties. One valuable takeaway was discovering that muscadine grapes aren't my cup of tea - good to know for future wine tastings!
The real gem, however, was the recommendation to try the Southern Club Moonshine Wine (apparently their sister company?). We LOVED every single one of their wines! I'd definitely suggest checking them out.
Overall, I'd recommend this winery for their exceptional customer service and the potential to discover some great wines. Thanks for the...
