I really enjoyed my time at Evitus. At first I was skeptical, seeing as how it's not exactly in the nicest area of town and you need to be buzzed in at the gate. However they were extremely nice and their VR setup is really cool. While it's possible to set up and use VR at home, the advantages of this place are 1. They already have all the equipment. 2. You get a whole room to move around in. 3. They have a multiplayer VR game where each player uses a headset etc. All of those would be difficult and/or expensive to have at home. Also, the hourly rate is quite reasonable considering how much fun it is. $25 an hour for single player ($35 for their multiplayer game) compares extremely favorably to other experiences.
Here are some suggestions that I think would really help this place take off - Better location - From what I understand, they are already planning on moving to a new location so this should fix that issue. Their building is right next to a bunch of apartment complexes off of a side street near Hillcroft avenue. It's easy to miss, and doesn't look like it's open to the public.
Some type of intercom system - If a player has issues with their headset etc, they currently have to flag down an employee or wait for an employee to come check on them. What might work better is a button on the wall to call for assistance. That way a player could stay immersed in the experience without interruption unless they needed assistance.
Trolley for the wires - The setup for the wires for the Vive is actually pretty good right now, but it's fixed to hang from one place in the ceiling. That makes it relatively easy to get tangled up. A good solution that could minimize tangling and trip hazards is if the cord was mounted on a moving trolley on the ceiling that could slide around as the player moved around so that it stayed constantly overhead and out of the way, without having to dangle...

ExitusVR is the only virtual reality escape room in the Houston, TX area. There are three scenarios to choose from for group play. The venue also has virtual reality multiplayer games to choose from, and also single player games. They only use the best VR equipment currently on the market (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift), and high end gaming machines to power those VR headsets.
Rates are affordable, but then again there is no other place like it, so it's hard to compare prices. Since the escape room and VR games may take awhile, customers come in by appointments only.
What makes ExitusVR stand out is their exceptional customer service. Since virtual reality is sometimes a hard concept to explain, the owners and their employees do a great job walking you through the process and answering any questions. Did I mention this place is all women owned and employed. Great for equality in the workplace.
Stop by if you get the chance. It will...
Read moreMy friends and I were first time VR players. Most of us like escape rooms and are board game enthusiasts. We were between Cyberpunk and Alice and chose the former. When I told who I assumed was the owner, she highly recommended Alice for first-timers. Boy, it didn’t disappoint. It is rated 9/10 difficulty with a 28% success rate….unfortunately we did not pass. Since it was our first time, we fooled around a lot (tried to punch or throw stuff at each other, wandered off and got lost, kept eating the food, etc). We did get to 63% though! The lady was nice to check up on us and make sure we were okay (I kept turning around and getting tangled by the overhead cord so she asked if I was ok; it was a bit annoying but I was so immersed in the virtual reality world that it was easily ignored). I loved that in Alice you really have to communicate to your teammates and solve the puzzles altogether. If you have good teamwork and don’t mess around like we did, for sure you’ll beat the game!...
