3 stars only because I am grateful for the range of things they accept as recycling and are one of the only in the city. Wish I could give them a 5 but the staff is extremely, extremely ill mannered. They really feed off of this one lady that has been there forever, I would be in a bad mood if I had to work with her too. You'll know who I'm talking about when you come across her there. She'll probably yell at you instead of taking, like you're a little kid an she's a bully. Yes I have talked top the manager about her several times but nothing has changed. Unless you come in a really nice car she'll put on her proper tone for you for a sec. I've seen it happen, it's ridiculous. They should make you feel good about a good dead but most of the time they make you feel like they make any excuse to not accept your things you took the time to contribute. They don't give you information or take seconds to educate you on how or what they accept. You have to adamantly ask, so do so. As in, how they want you to have your things organized so they won't say it's trash and walk away like they like to do to get you out of their way since their job is soo hard they can't take the time to keep having customers come back. They are ridiculous in not seeing they won't have a job because we don't want to come back. This should be a good experience because we are helping the planet they live in and providing a job for them no matter how obvious it is they hate it. Get another job lady where you don't have to interact with friendly, earth loving people! They accept several things other places don't though and I appreciate that like: styrofoam, motor oil, all electronics, cardboard, light bulbs, plastics, glass, not grocery bags anymore, not #6 plastics, steel, and I've just learned that from experience going there, I haven't found an actual list for them. If you wanna be really productive packing for some things has placed you can mail their things for recycling. Let's reduce co2 emissions and water guys! Lessen your car and shower...
Read moreHave went here many times without issue until today. I had about a gallon of antifreeze and 5 qts of motor oil to recycle so I left work a couple miles away during lunch to come here. Somehow in the process my drivers license fell out in my backpack back at the office and I didn't notice. Pulled in to the recycling center and the first person comes up and doesn't know whether they take antifreeze or oil goes to get person number 2. Second person comes up and says they take it but need a drivers license which is when I look for it and realize it was back at the office, I inform them I forgot it. He goes back and gets another person who comes up to the window and asks "what do you want?" I tell him i'm there to recycle (pretty obvious) he asks for the drivers license and refuses to take anything because I forgot it. I have recycled antifreeze here probably 15 times in my life and never been asked for a drivers license before. What are they going to do with the drivers license even if I had it with me???? What is the purpose??? Could they be any ruder than walking up and asking someone "what do you want?" Last time I come to this recycling center. I can take used motor oil to any auto parts store without a drivers license or even talking to an employee you just leave it in the designated area and walk away. Had my CHL with me along with numerous other identifying items but they didn't care, no drivers license no recycling waste of time.
Returned here today with my drivers license and they refused to take my items because my address is in Katy. They have now decided to only accept items from people with Houston on their drivers license. If you don't have a Houston address don't waste your time...
Read moreExperience varies dramatically. The last two times I visited, I was met with very rude and hostile employees and am updating the previous review to capture more recent conditions.
Last visit, I did not get any employee names, but am thankful for the helpful black woman that immediately directed/collected the paint and rechargeable battery. While conducting the exchange, a rude black man interrupted the situation and literally stepped in between me and the other employee and started explaining what should be done. Since he hadn't actually paid attention to the materials I was dropping off, his directions were off base. The situation was so unexpected and confrontational that I asked him to "please step away from me". The man, literally, physically stepped in/up, briefly, before walking away complaining about how some customers are so rude.
My previous review, from around 2015 or 2016, is below... sometimes you get good people...
Fast, easy, drive-through service. I dropped off sealed lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries in a cardboard box and was on my way.
I saw a few negative reviews and suggest the following explanation. The first employees you see are there to direct you inside and won't be able to answer specific questions. Drive up the ramp, and pull all the way forward. There, you'll find someone knowledgeable to take your recyclables. Some of the reviews mention employees that didn't look busy working; I saw employees ready to serve...
