We have been here before and got the sweet breads which were all delicious. So I decided to purchase my daughter’s birthday cake from the bakery. I picked out a cake design from their OWN website. The ordering/ purchasing process went fine. The day the party, when the children started taking a bite of the frosting, they all said that the frosting tasted funny. A lot of the pieces of cake that were cut were left uneaten and had to be thrown away. My husband and I tasted the cake and the frosting tasted like chemicals! It had a very bitter unpleasant taste and I have never had a cake that tasted like that. Every person that tried the cake/frosting all said the same thing that it tasted like chemicals. After the party we packed what was left of the cake, took it home and decided to call the bakery to let them know the cake was not good and would like a refund. The first time my husband called the were apologetic but resistant in giving us a refund. He stated that when a cake has bright colored frosting it will be bitter and asked if anyone told us that before buying which NO-ONE didn’t. Had I known that I never would’ve bought a cake there. I have never had a cake that had bitter tasting frosting in my life, frosting should be sweet not bitter. At first they were only offering store credit since they required the at least 50% of the uneaten cake back in order to get any kind of refund. We told them that most of the cake slices were not eaten and had to be thrown away. The refund policy was also never explained to me before buying the cake. After a few back to back calls, talking to managers and general managers, we were able to get a 50% refund for the cake. I feel like I am not completely satisfied with the service, I think a full refund or a replacement cake would’ve been more fair. My daughter, and all of the children weren’t able to enjoy any cake on her special day. I also had to check on the children to make sure they didn’t get sick since the frosting tasted like chemicals. The overall experience was just not very professional and there was a of lack of a lot of important information. I wanted to let the Bakery know of my experience and others that order a cake with them in the future, please try the cake before you buy! If the cake that you’re ordering has bright colored frosting, be warned the cake I got tasted like cleaning supplies! So please ask how the cake will taste after it’s decorated.

El Bolillo Bakery is a delightful spot for sweet treats! As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a colorful and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The process is simple: grab a plate and some tongs, and start exploring the vast array of baked goods displayed in each cabinet. The variety is almost overwhelming, with countless authentic Latin treats that will remind many of home. One thing to note is that, aside from the cajeta churro and donut, most of the baked goods aren’t overly sweet. This can be a great aspect for those who prefer a more subtle sweetness, but it might be misleading for those expecting a sugar rush. El Bolillo Bakery isn’t just about sweets, though. They also have a fantastic tamale station. The hatch green chile and chicken tamales, with their fiery salsa verde, are a must-try! Overall, the bakery’s vibrant decorations and friendly patrons add to the welcoming experience. If you’re in the mood for some authentic Latin baked goods and tamales, El Bolillo Bakery is the place to go.

They haven't been open long but what a fun place. The staff was so friendly and the baked goods so vast. You grab and tray and load it up with whatever your heart desires. We loved the atmosphere. Visiting from Canada, a "real" Mexican bakery was great. We wished they had prices on the food. I don't understand why they didn't. But we saw people loading their trays high so we figured it couldn't be too costly. We got probably 6 or 8 various treats, a couple large buns, and about 4 cake slices and it came to about $29. We didn't like the chocolate mouse very much. The cake and cookies were good. Not incredible but good. The cake slices near the til (where there are umpteen flavours) all seem like the same cake base with different fillings and icings. We were hoping for more variation. I wouldn't buy them again. The bread though was fantastic and we returned again a day or two later for more bread. Delicious. We'd definitely return here again if we were local.

The cake i asked for was not ready. The invoice was placed in a different stack. I asked for my transaction to please be refunded and i would pay with a different credit card and then wait for the cake to be made. The manager said didn't have the capability in their system for a closed transaction. I shouldve just said i didnt want the cake anymore and then they would have had to refund my money. Customer Service is KEY to ongoing business. Update They didn't update my transaction. But they went ahead and took the cake to the church themselves since it wasnt ready at the time they said it would. This is why I added 2 more stars. The cake was beautifully decorated 😍 and it was outstanding. But just so you all know these cakes are not 100% freshly made. Everything is premade (like the bread of the cake) and then on the day u pick it up they just put it all together, drench it in sweet milk (which isnt the best recipe) and decorate it. The cake was a 7 out of 10 when it came to the taste. I used to order from Bolillos on wayside and i remember their cakes tasting perfectly...
