Walking into the Kelsey-Seybold Berthelsen Main Campus on West Holcombe Blvd feels more like arriving at a refined hotel lobby than a medical facility. The high ceilings, the abundance of natural light, and the well-planned seating areas create an atmosphere that is both elegant and calming. The design of the lobby is sophisticated yet functional, setting a welcoming tone from the very first step inside.
Kelsey-Seybold’s story began in 1949, when Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey envisioned a group practice that would bring together primary care and specialty medicine under one roof, modeled after the Mayo Clinic. That vision grew steadily over the decades and has become one of Houston’s most trusted names in healthcare. The West Holcombe campus carries the name of Dr. Spencer R. Berthelsen, a physician who helped expand the system into the modern multispecialty group it is today, with a strong focus on coordinated, patient-centered care.
The experience as a patient at this location is remarkable. Complimentary valet parking makes arrival stress-free. At the entrance, the staff greeted me with warmth and genuine courtesy. From reception to nursing staff to physicians, every interaction felt professional yet kind, and never rushed. There is a clear sense that everyone here takes pride in offering attentive care.
The facilities themselves are outstanding. The campus includes advanced diagnostic imaging such as CT, MRI, and 3D mammography, a full laboratory, on-site pharmacy, and one of the largest ambulatory surgery centers in Texas. The coordination between departments is seamless. Records and results move smoothly, which allows patients to see multiple specialists in the same building without the usual frustrations of disjointed care. This approach is exactly what Dr. Kelsey envisioned: high-quality medical services made accessible, efficient, and integrated.
A special note of gratitude goes to the Imaging Department. From the front desk team that welcomed me with patience and efficiency, to the technicians and specialists who guided me through every step of the process, each person demonstrated both professionalism and kindness. Their ability to combine technical excellence with a reassuring presence made the entire experience far less intimidating and truly exceptional. They deserve recognition for the care and attention they bring to patients every single day.
Practical details also stand out. Hours of operation run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the laboratory opening as early as 7 a.m. and the pharmacy available until 6 p.m. The schedule shows awareness of the busy lives patients lead and the need for flexibility.
While waiting, a nurse shared that the original Holcombe clinic started on a much smaller scale, serving a loyal base of Houstonians, and over time grew into today’s state-of-the-art campus. That history is reflected in the building’s blend of modern technology with a strong sense of tradition and continuity. The transformation of this campus into what now feels like a medical hub underscores the growth of Kelsey-Seybold’s reputation over the years.
What ultimately makes this campus exceptional is not only the cutting-edge equipment or the impressive size of its facilities, but also the human side of the experience. From start to finish I felt respected and genuinely cared for. It is rare to find a healthcare environment that combines sophistication and compassion so seamlessly. For anyone in Houston seeking comprehensive and reliable care in a setting that feels both modern and humane, the Berthelsen Main Campus on West Holcombe Blvd leaves a...
Read moreThis was my message to my neurologist after not being able to receive my botox for chronic migraines. Ill explain further.
Hello Dr Garza. I hope this finds you well. I came toy appt but was turned away because o couldn't pay full amount owed of 700. I have always paid coming and through payment plans that they allowed. The system though many times ca canceled the agreement and I would have to call in and restart the plan. The past payment drawn I had fraud on my card so had to cancel it. But still spoke to someone a few weeks ago and made a payment. The payment plan was to restart with the new credit card info I provided. Its so awful that I've done all I needed to do and because of computer system error im turned away. I was a Faithful patient or tried to be. I was ready to pay again today toward my balance but wasn't allowed. Im sure the 700 owed is not making or breaking kelsey and I think its a terrible thing for someone with chronic pain. Its been so so bad the last three weeks and I'm stuck with nothing. I trusted kelsey and this is really disheartening. I'll change doctor's. Thank you for everything.
Also. Please the lady at the front desk is not a kind person. I was trying to tell her I was in pain and really needed to see someone. And tried explaining why I accumulated a balance in spite of being on payment plans.....and the first thing she said was....im not gonna argue with you. I explained to her I wasn't arguing and she said well you keep going back and forth. This is not a good day for me! I hope everyone's is better. God bless yal.
When and if you choose Kelsey Seybold know that if you are on a payment plan. But you go to a follow up. And you make a payment during that appointment. That cancels your payment plan. You have to call them back each time to reinstate it. Also, if your card declines when any payment plan payment isn't able to process, and you call to give them a new card information and make a payment. That does not reinstate your payment plan. You'll have to again, call back to reinstate the payment plan. Or else you'll be sent over to collections like I was over this issue. They have a terrible billing system. And if for some reason you have to go to neurology at the main campus location. Be prepared to deal with very unprofessional customer service by the lady sitting at the front desk. She's condescending has no compassion and really made me feel bad in some way every time i went. But because my neurologist is awesome. Ive put up with it. Speaking to managenent is nearly impossible and when so. Nothing is done the same behavior continues. At this point I'll reach out to insurance and change pcp back to my community clinic in galveston county. Even though it'll mean changing neuroligist but i'll have peace of mind going to my appointments. Having migraines and dealing with this is something i do have control over.
I pray everyone finds their right fit in their...
Read moreI love Kelsey-seybold as a clinic in general. Because I care about my health care and my life. My PCP and cardiologist are the best staff and they understand me as a patient and person. I'd always recommend them as an exceptional clinic. I read medical background and watch video on every Dr. that I see prior to. From the appointment line and the front desk to lab technician and the nurses when you call in. I listen to hear if they love their job or career choice. I have met some amazing staff members who really made me feel like a patient with concerns and questions. They were honest when thanking me for choosing them for my services. They listened and answered, but also ask details about my health, lifestyle, and family history or my last visit. Some laughed, shared a Amen with me, or said they understood. Even taking time to read through my medication history and asking effects before prescribing new medication. But some that made me feel as if I was just a notch on their belt and to keep it moving. Just typing on the computer, payment received first. Thank you. The larger a company gets personal touch, care, and kindness isn't a priority anymore. Get them in and out, see six to seven patients in a hour is a great day. Then if you speak well enough you'll see less patients, and you to can speak for Kelsey-Seybold. Nineteen years or more of education to become a spokesperson. Over any I'd recommend and trust any patient care to Kelsey-Seybold and St. Luke's. Sorry to add them to your survey. But I love Kelsey-Seybold and I'd bet on you always. Thanks for taking care of me and my opinion of how I feel about you as a whole. By the way I was hired to work in appointments round or after 2007. But my mother was rushing to hospital and I had to walk out of 1st orientation day when held near Reliant. But I a still became a patient due to the kindness shown that day.
