I hate going to hospitals but one day I had no choice. I had been sick a while but one morning I woke up in so much pain it was barely bearable but I still waited because again I hate hospitals. Around 2pm I decided I could no longer take the pain and went to the closest ER. Memorial Herman. I check in and everything. The first time they called me back to take my vitals I list my pain as a 7-8 and the lady who took them was pleasant and seemed to care. She was one of 2 staff there who seemed to and she told me the next time they called me back from the waiting room I should get some kind of meds to help with the pain. An hour later of sitting in the waiting room and I get called back. A white male nurse comes to, well idk the procedures names and what not, but he tells me to lay down impatiently and says tell me where it hurts. The second my back hits the table he quickly pushes on my stomach once and acts as if I’m lying or being dramatic or god knows what. But he just didn’t care. He told me to sit up and leaves. That alone was humiliating. I understand people CAN try and get pills by saying there in pain but that treatment was dehumanizing. Another nurse took my blood. Another sweet women who seemed to care. The only two who should be working at a hospital. I didn’t receive anything for the pain and they sent me back out. At this point there were also 2 other people on the ER who also obviously were in extreme pain. I cried to myself at one point and I saw another women brake down as well. The pain eventually became unbearable as I had been in constant pain all day. I curled up in the chair and managed to fall asleep. I stayed half awake though to hear my name called. At around 8 or 9 they call me back. I guess my body was tired of sending pain signals because when I woke up due to my name being called the pain had majorly subsided. I had a UTI that was on its way to my kidneys. They put me in some room. The doctor came for 2 minutes and asked some questions and I never saw them again. A black female nurse gave me an IV and took my vitals and what not and left me in the room alone. For the hours I was there I started having horrible shivers. I was freezing even with the blanket provided. I was finally provided with pain medication but at this point that wasn’t the issue anymore. I was literally stuck there shivering horribly. The doctor asked me before if I had nausea as a symptom. I hadn’t before but suddenly I had the urge to puke bad. I tried to hold it but I couldn’t and I puked all the water they had given me onto the floor. I thought it was over but suddenly I couldn’t stop trying to throw up. I had been in so much pain that day I couldn’t eat so there was nothing on my stomach to come up but I was caught in a puking fit. So I rang the thing for the nurse to come. She doesn’t do anything but it stops and she tells me afterwards next time not to MAKE myself throw up or something. I guess it wasnt legitimate since there was nothing coming up but like I said I hadn’t eaten all day. Then left me alone to shiver. I got prescribed antibiotics and sent home. Got charged over 10,000 for this lovely experience. This is why I don’t go to hospitals and self medicate. Even if the people working are black and a woman which I’d think would make them more sympathetic to another black women, they still choose to invalidate you at every turn. Instead of taking you seriously and caring about you as a patient. They choose to degrade you at your most vulnerable. I feel so bad for everyone who has to go to these places and deal with medical staff treating us like this. This is inhumane. Treat us like people who are in desperate situations. Even if someone is trying to get drugs they are clearly an addict and need help not judgment. I guarantee most people coming in for pain are legitimate. Y’all do know there are people who sell drugs right? Not everyone needs to try and finagle a hospital to get charged a million times more the buying off the street. WE ARE AT THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE WE NEED HELP AND NO...
Read moreThe first day I had a nurse named Jason and he was great it was difficult getting to the bathroom and having a nurse come in to unhook my IV so I asked for a bedside toilet after that I rarely saw anyone as I have been very ill and I know what it's like to be very ill so I thought it's best they have priority. What really angers me I had three different GI doctors that came in just to collect money there was only one that explained anything it's in a group that a doctor Sun was in I think there are four in that group I believe I saw at least three of them. Doctors would come in as they say if they put their foot in the room they get paid. Between Medicare and Blue Cross Blue shield the hospital was paid very well and I received another bill over $1,700 I have requested an itemized statement. I may pay something on this bill and then I may not I will contact the credit bureau and the media if necessary. Our schedule for endoscopy what's a doctor I really liked but got someone else that morning. I was a patient of Dr Calli and he is truly a good man and a good Christian. I only saw him once. The other doctors came to visit several GI doctors just so they could get a paycheck from the visit. I was in the ER room over 8 hours. I have never had anyone so rude in an ER room. They're terribly understaffed and have no empathy the security guard was an extremely rude man. Unbelievable I did not need to see an anesthesiologist so he could get paid, I was put under by anesthesis and I'm very familiar with it. That hospital has changed as I was in a surgery there 18 hours and Dr Robert Davis thank God he's retired just about killed me. The bill I received, I have no intentions of paying it all, I don't go to any websites and I may make a small payment however memorial City doctors that came to visit and did absolutely nothing especially Dr sun He is from a gastro group and only one I think his name was Christian but I did not see him as planned there were at least three doctors that came in just so they could get money so I don't feel like I owe anyone a dime. If necessary I will take this to the media I have a friend at ABC channel 13. For them to build me a dime it is ludicrous. They were paid very well credit Care I had and unnecessary doctors that would come in so they could get paid. They just sent me a bill and said what my insurance paid which was close to 10K a day, no I don't feel like I owe you a dime. You are well paid first services that were rendered. All hospitals in Texas are required to do charity work at some point. I am 73 years old I don't have Wi-Fi I don't have a laptop and I suggest don't turn this over to another billing company as I will not pay it then either. Including the 8-hour wait in the ER room after I got to a room in the ER area it was forever until I got to a hospital room. I went there for one reason to see Dr Calli. I never needed to meet with three GI people just so they could receive a check. They just came to visit didn't really explain anything, I know when hospital bills are not paid then they sell them to a collection agency and then they sell them to another collection agency excetera excetera Don't waste your time with me. I'm on a fixed income my Blue Cross Blue shield it's very expensive it's about 10K a day for the time I was there. If there was an attending physician it was just the hospitalist. I must say Jason was more then just a nurse, he even came to visit me when he was not on East wing. While I was in the hospital I got bed bug bites I think the sofa in there that makes out into a bed has been there at least 30 years. I drove myself there and they were kind enough to do the endoscopy by not the doctor I chose. I slept most of the day and drove myself home. I did get a diagnosis but as far as doctors coming in that did nothing but shoot the breeze I don't feel like I owe memorial City...
Read moreMEMORIAL CITY MEMORIAL HERRMANN HOSPITAL IS GREAT. HOWEVER THEIR E/R IS ANYTHING BUT AND I JUST WISH THERE WERE NEGATIVE STARS RATINGS AVAILABLE... Here's my most recent experience from last October...
I had a fungal infection that became a staph infection and then became a SEVERE INFECTION. Wife insisted I go to urgent care and they INSISTED that I go to the E/R likely needing I/V ANTIBIOTICS ...So we went to Memorial Hospital E/R at Memorial City. Waited almost 3 hours to be seen and then a doctor finally came in (and spent LESS THAN 90 seconds) and DID NOT LOOK AT THE STAPH BLISTERS. Left and said he'd send back a nurse with instructions...Another half hour a male nurse shows up and hands me a tube of antifungal ointment and said we could leave. I said to the nurse...What about an ANTIBIOTIC and he said he didn't know anything about it but would ask the doctor...Another 20-30 minutes go by and he returns with AN ATTITUDE and tells me "THE DOCTOR SAID THIS (antifungal) IS ALL YOU NEED and that you NEED TO LEAVE NOW !!!,,, which we did. By the next day, the Staph infection had spread further and intensified and I just walked into my doctor's office without an appointment and, fortunately he knows me for 40 years and saw me. I tell him what happened and it's the first time in those 40 years I heard him SWEAR saying that I was hours away from having SEPSIS and IF left untreated (as it had been) I could have died. He put me on a very strong antibiotic and told me to come in the next day if I hadn't seen any improvement. The infection started to abate that night and more the next morning, but later that day my legs got weak and eventually just stopped working (NOT Paralyzed, just like RUBBER). So back I go, get my blood tested and get the results the next day...."YOU NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!!! Why? Your Potasium is extremely high (But I feel okay and my legs are improving along with my infection) and he screams NOW it's 7.5 and that is HEART ATTACK TERRITORY. So back to the E/R I go, terrified I'm going to get the same Doctor (and punch him in the throat :-), but this time they heard the original story, immediately recognized who the Dr. who treated me was (based on extensive prior knowledge) and gave me GREAT SERVICE. I stayed until the next night until my potassium returned to high, but safe enough levels to go home. A couple of weeks later I got a survey questionairre about the first E/R visit and GAVE THEM A NEGATIVE 10 on a 10 scale along with full commentary blasting the treatment and danger that was presented to my life. Got a call, told the story YET AGAIN and they said they would put it under investigation...2-3 weeks later I get a formal note, DELIVERED USPS SIGNATURE REQUIRED (obviously to cover their asses) SAYING I RECEIVED APPROPRIATE TREATMENT!!! I immediate called the lady who signed that ridiculous CYA document and screamed HE'S GOING TO KILL SOMEONE...I just got lucky that I was able to get treated before it turned SEPSIS...BUT HERE'S THE AMAZING THING ABOUT THIS STORY...Memorial E/R sent (and this was just for this first visit) A bill to my insurance company for $18,000 for a less than 90 second examination that WAS NOT AN EXAMINATION AT ALL AND COULD HAVE KILLED ME!!! But please don't take my word for this or the original post, but GOOGLE MEMORIAL CITY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM REVIEWS and you will see story after story after story like this. WE DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS and certainly do NOT deserve to be treated this way AND BILLED TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNTS FOR LESS THAN NOTHING!!! I don't know where else one should go, but if you have time, find out in advance where to go if you have an emergency that can be reached quickly AND ISN'T MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ER AT...
