My first visit to this place was this past week despite how many of my friends recommended it to me. Of course, the first step was to get a cigar. I grabbed a couple Rocky Patels from humidor. Briscoe the aficionado did an outstanding job recommending a couple—and several more I took home later that night. Next up I met Marley, the bartender who got me my first dose of bourbon; but the real magic happened when I found my friend Luis bartending there—no offense to Marley.
I told him to unleash the madness; so this guy pulls out a flame torch and sets a pile of wood chips on fire followed by snuffing it out on the inside of a snifter. After creating a mixture of bourbon, orange peel and something else, he pours it over a large ice cube and caps the Smokey snifter with a fresh coaster. It was honestly one of the best tasting drinks I’ve ever had; moreover, it wasn’t overpowering against my cigars.
The only criticism I have, I wish they had a few more super top-shelf cigars; but the cigar expert explained it well. Companies like Opus X—that I specifically asked for—require very specific placement from their marketing to accept a venue for wholesale. All the same, their selection is beautiful, and it seems to be secondary to the overall lounge experience and their liquor selection.
Ultimately, they have an outstanding trademark drink, a very well-informed staff, and a beautiful 20s speakeasy ambience; but their shining jewel is an absolutely outstanding selection of whiskey, bourbon, and scotch. Everything works together well to give it a nice completeness in their theme. Definitely a wonderful place for a quiet drink or privacy with a few...
Read moreI live local and have been to sip several times. I know the drink prices are a little pricy but the atmosphere and selection of bourbon is very good. I had family visiting and we all like bourbon so I thought this would be a great time to take them there. We sat at the bar so we could ogle the display of bourbons. There were 3 guys tending bar. Two of them were super nice, polite and friendly. One of the really nice guys was helping my wife with drinks for the girls while my brother and I tried to select a nice bourbon without breaking the bank. Did I mention my brother and I both are long time bourbon drinkers with many high end bourbons of our own so we know a little about bourbon. This short little guy in a Boston Scally cap was waiting on us. He basically told us that we knew nothing about bourbon and that our taste in liquor was horrible and didn't really matter. It was the worst service I have had my 38 years in Huntsville. I was almost embarrassed for taking my family there. When and if I ever return I will walk right out if this guy is still working there. Wish I had a photo of him to post with the review but I won't soon forget him. Yes I plan to share my experience...
Read moreCome here a lot when I come to town and for a long time it was 5/5 incredible place. Now service seems iffy at times. Last time we were there, we were with a group of 6. 3 of us got cigars, while the other 3 ordered drinks.
The happy hour on the website says 4 to 8 pm. At 7 PM a bartender took 3 drinks and as our other friend to order the other 3 on happy hour , the bartender kinda ignored and then said happy hour is over. When we brought it up that HH ends at 8 according to their website she said they haven’t updated the website in 3 years as it’s managed by a 3rd party. So at 7 they refused 3 more drinks on happy hour.
Lastly, they charge $2 for matches .. at a cigar bar.
I go to a lot of lounges across the US , and the lounge usually has liters or matches for people to be able to actually light the cigar they purchase from said lounge.
Anyway , bad service the Norm ? Hopefully not. But that coupled with charging for matches left a bad taste in my mouth.
Hopefully things are...
