I've been coming to Immaculate Conception whenever it's possible because I live in the Palm Valley area which is far. Today I was devastated. I went to confession and I was criticized for telling too much detail and that I didn't prepare adequately for my confession. I told him I thought long and hard about my confession and that other priests said that it is good to give details. He literally said I needed to use one word sentences to get to the point. I won't say who the priest is but the parish will see which one it was by looking at today's date. I hid my tears I could barely get through Mass. During his sermon he also bragged about how much money his uncle or father made back in the 1950s and stated the actual dollar amount which was 40 million dollars which would mean 1 billion today. I thought this was inappropriate. The sermon was talking about the parable about storing your earthly treasures in your barn and something about inheritance and fighting over money. I can't even imagine a priest dictating and criticizing how I should make a confession, that it should be just one word descriptions and no detail. My confession wasn't even long. I wasn't given what I needed to do for penance. I told him maybe he should find another profession. Either way my day has been really disturbed. I gave 5 stars because I've loved this church...

Dazed and confused? Spent every weekday in middle-class humdruum workspaces? Got loads of guilt? Come on in to the not cool-enough in summer, and not warm-enough in the winter disuasion center of downtown. You can go thru the Hellish commute to Catholicisms go-to place for suburbanites to pray among the poor, the destitute & abandoned elderly, and on Saturdays, the homeless beggars who fill the back parking lot. But, don't feel like you have to give in after tithing your 10%... Because St.Francis Soup Kitchen is the reason they're hanging out. Want to donate, something? Meet Diane McVety at 356-2902, or ladydi@comcast.net, the beautiful and gracious goddess among us. She can schedule you on a day convenient to THEIR schedule, making your sacrifice of time, energy and money optimally freeing. Are you a rich, well-travelled, semi-retired lawyer, doctor, or retired government employee. Join the board of directors! Want MORE daytime opportunities to work your way into an afterlife YOU desire?!? Check out Catholic Charities, next door. If you're a middle-class, middle-aged woman, you'll be more than likely to be offered a paying position. You'll fit right in with these office partiers. You're guaranteed to have many mandatory, catered planning meetings that have the same lack-of-productivity you were used to having in your...

My family was a member of Immaculate Conception (IC) Church for several decades. I left and came back to Jacksonville after being away for 45 years. When I walked into IC last Christmas Eve for Mass I was overwhelmed in that I have lived all over the world during those 45 years going to Christmas Eve Mass at Notre Dame in Paris, attending Mass at the Vatican, going to Masses in the Orient as well as South America. All these famous cathedrals and churches have NOTHING on IC! Last Christmas Eve IC truly brought me home to Mass and Catholicsm again as I have never felt. The stained glass windows, the Stations of the Cross, the statutes, the pews and kneelers...nothing has changed and the stained glass windows are worth an absolute fortune. The current pastor, Fr. Edward Murphy who was born and raised in Jacksonville, has a personality that is unbelievable and his sermons are absolutely outstanding and humbling as he tells it "the way it is". How refreshing! People from all over Duval County attend Mass at IC and are parishioners. If you're visiting Jacksonville please put this on your "to do list" of places to see. I assure you, you won't be...

A beautiful church to Our Blessed Mother. We were there on a Monday afternoon for the 12:10 Mass and were impressed by the size of the group that was present. The windows are stunning, and some that I haven't seen before (which is getting more and more difficult). The Pieta near the entrance is of particular brilliance, and quite moving. A very easy place to pray and feel in the presence of God. There is a small parking lot across the street from the main entrance, which is free for liturgical services. The prayer garden is also a lovely feature.

Enjoyed attending on Sunday morning. Mass was earlier than most at 10:00 a.m. Be sure to verify on their website, but that seems to be standard for them. They also do a 12:00 p.m. Mass. Everyone I met was very nice and welcoming. And, of course, the Basilica was impressive along with the organ. Reminiscent of the Basilica in Savannah.
