Peterbrooke Chocolatier River City — Attraction in Jacksonville

I recently visited Peterbrooke in Rivercity. At first, the staff member seemed welcoming, but my experience quickly changed over a box of small strawberries. I noted that some berries were very small, and the response felt more like a lecture on how strawberries come in different sizes. There was also chocolate-covered popcorn on the counter, which I considered while deciding whether to purchase, which quickly returned to the shelf.

The exchange was very passive-aggressive, and the suggestion to call the owner confirmed that. When I spoke with the owner, her response mirrored the same tone, which was disappointing.

This experience gave me the impression that the store and its owner does not value its customers in the community which it serves. I’ve been a loyal customer in the past, but this visit confirmed to not return. I have written another review about this store in the past when it had a different owner, and that experience also raised concerns about racial undertones. I share this to help others understand the pattern I’ve observed. Not proud to admit, I probably purchase more Peterbroke Chocolate products than all of Jacksonville customers combined 😂 If you’re considering trying Peterbrooke, you may want to explore other locations. The owner made it her business to share with me she owns two other locations. I won’t share those because I haven’t experienced any negative interactions. But the one in this particular community the works are definitely reflecting the owners leadership. Oh I went to another Peterbroke location and received top- notch service. I usually go to coldstone for my ice cream but today i decided to give peterbrooke a try. Terrible decision; don't waste your money here they have minimal signage in the store the women that was working there had an attitude the whole time i paid four dollars for a tiny piss cup worth of gelato when i could have easily went to coldstone and got double that plus toppings included for 5; very rude service and the have no signage saying there's a card limit so if you don't have cash they are going to charge you 5 instead, you'd think they'd be nice to the only customer they're going to...

My husband went in here today to purchase items to give to our clients. He bought 8 items around $9 each. The old woman working (no name tag) refused to individually bag the items, instead putting everything in one bag. When my husband explained he needed them individually bagged, she put 8 smaller bags in the big bag- no tissue paper or anything. He started to get the bags out to rebag them and she told him he could do that in his car. He was the only customer in the store. Next time , we will spend our $80 elsewhere. HORRIBLE...
