I read a lot of reviews of this place before we went. I've come to the conclusion that whether or not you're going to enjoy it depends entirely on your attitude. There were people there, while we were there, not enjoying themselves at all. WE had a blast.
My daughter (8) was so excited for days leading up to it. She is obsessed with illusions and knew how many of them worked already from watching YouTube but that just makes her love them MORE.
The staff was friendly & helpful. I think there were only 2 people working and they still managed to pop out of random places & offer to take family group pictures of the 3 of us. And not just one and done pictures; they helped arrange us to make the best use of the illusion, let us switch places, etc.
Our favorite part was probably the Ames Room bc seeing one on TV is one thing but seeing it with your own eyes is bonkers.
My husband wasn't a fan of the True Mirror (a mirror that doesn't show a reflection but shows you how you actually look) while my child was unfazed by it bc she spends very little time looking in mirrors.
It is a small museum but that's kinda nice bc you don't have to do everything in order and you can go back and do things again. It's not a lot of walking and I don't think your eyes or sense of depth perception would want to be there too long anyway.
I got 2 adults and 1 child tickets for $32 on Groupon maybe that's expensive? I don't know. It's probably on par with seeing a movie and we were interacting with each other and laughing and learning and moving. I don't think it was too expensive. Most things don't engage my kid that well & I'm pretty sure it was just the right amount of stuff to do as well.
Kinda wish there had been some hand-sanitizer in there somewhere but I really should have had some in my purse.
TLDR; Totally worth it if you don't go in already resentful about the ticket price, value experiences, and are naturally curious; a glass-half-full person,...
Read moreIt was an okay museum, pretty expensive ($18 for adults) to go in for a tiny place. The exhibitions were run down and some even broken. The mirror in the illusion of the card dealer was broken and other things—regardless I wanted to give them a higher star rate I believe it deserves this or less due to the staff being very rude and over stepping boundaries. After exiting the museum, right by the counter they had some pretty old wooden puzzles in what seemed to be dollar tree colored boxes. My son being a 2 year was playing with them(there's no sign that indicates you can't play with them) and I'm next to him trying to "solve" a puzzle when one of the employee comes and snatches the plastic tupper ware looking box from my son's hands and starts yelling at him that he's messing them up. As a parent I'm enraged and upset for her behavior. I controlled myself from placing my hands on her because my other child was watching. I told her she needed to address me because I'm the parent of she has an issue with my son touching their stuff. Not only did she yelled at him she snatched blocks from his hands as well. She refused to give me her name stating they're not required to give their names even though they're employees. After refusing to give her name I told her I'd take pictures of her to report her and that's when she started apologizing. I'm sure she's done it to other people based on her cockiness but no one ever stood up to her. Now we were just visiting, 1000 miles away from home and this person ruins a visit. Where I'm from everything wouldn't have turned out the way it did. I've been trying to get in contact with her boss but so far no luck. I will keep trying. Now before anyone says anything, I'd been picking up after my son as we walked through the museum, because he's a toddler who does not understand that what he's doing is wrong as his parent I pick up after him. And just in case I won't be posting her picture but I...
Read moreI won' post any pictures because that will take away from the experience. The wait time was ridiculous, and unorganized. There needs to be a separate entrance for those who bought tickets online. There is no reason that there is ONE person taking/selling tickets, AND giving 5 minute instructions per person.
There should be one person selling the tickets, and another person giving the instructions to make things more efficient. There should also be another entrance for those who bought tickets online. It's a little concerning that there is no benefit of ordering online, and I will keep a close eye on my credit card statement now. Not sure I trust that, respectfully.
I would suggest using the person who is selling product, and just escort people down that little hallway to the left behind the register. It's worth a try at least.
While I understand the other reviews that these are all old concepts of illusion that have been seen before, that wasn't really the point for me. It's something to do to get out and be active and engaging with others. We complain that KC needs more, then complain once someone tries to bring that.
I would still suggest fixing that front entrance, and adding more employees or volunteers. Overall, our visit was about 45 minutes, and another 30 minutes of waiting in line. It could be longer if you read every info panel, so take your...
