June 12th at noon we went to see a movie. We(my father, me, and my two kids)(10yrs and 3yrs) stopped by the bathrooms first, and then we went to buy tickets for the movie. This is when my dad was approached by security saying he was pointed out as a person who had been bothering and harassing families and making people feel uncomfortable. There was a different black male who was homeless, being loud and making people feel uncomfortable. He was wearing a red baseball hat and a white shirt. My dad pointed out he didn't even match the discretion of the other man. My daughter also saw this man. My father was wearing a white shirt with a black vest over it with a fanny pack. That's when we knew the male security guard was lying. My father told the 2 security guards he didn't match the discretion and the male guard didn't even listen, just cut him off and told him he had to leave right now. My dad politely said he wasn't leaving until they talked to the lady who said it was him because they had the wrong person. At this point, the male security guard starts to call for backup. This is when I stepped in and asked what was going on. They then briefly explained that someone had personally pointed him out to my father as the homeless man and that he had to leave immediately. I then told the male security guard, that my father was with us and he had been with us the whole time, so it was definitely not him. At this point, the male guard changed his tone and said oh he is with you? I said yes. I looked at my daughter and said, "See this is what it's like to be black in America and this is what's called racial profiling. When I said this the female security guard got very upset and raised her voice at me and my family saying no it was not racial profiling. "They had a report it was my father." I am 8 months pregnant and it is very visible. She continued to yell at me as she and the other guard walked away while other customers downstairs in front of the movie ticket line watched. My father was so shaken and scared that he didn't even want to see a movie anymore. Before we left Union Station we went to the security office downstairs to file a complaint. As we were leaving we ran into the same female security guard and my dad said to her as we walked out he was upset because the other security guard had lied and that was not OK. The female security guard got upset and said "Well we were told it was you". As we felt the building she continued to raise her voice and yell at us. She gave us a fake rude sorry and I told her it was too late for a sorry. All of this happened in front of my kids, my very little kids. My poor father had to be treated like this in front of his grandkids and we simply wanted to go to a movie. I understand mistakes happen but that's when you say sorry. You don't raise your voice and make a scene. I also understand there is a homeless problem downtown, I live downtown. But this should have never happened. We do think that because my father was talking to my daughter alone, who happens to be white, the security guards instinctively profiled him because he was with her. Not knowing or caring it was his granddaughter. It's 2025 for goodness sake. This shouldn't have happened. My dad is a 70-year-old man and has had to deal with his whole life. He should be able to go to a movie with his daughter and his grandkids and not be profiled like this. No one should be spoken to like that or embarrassed in that way in front of their grandkids. It really traumatized my kids. I hope this isn't the kind of behavior your company condones. We are hoping this email could be sent to the security team or maybe you have an email for me to reach them. I would really love to continue to come to Union Station and feel safe. Union Station never emailed me back. They didnt seem to care how we were treated. No surprise because this security company has...

Read moreIt’s a cool building and all except it’s a free public place that the Titans have begun patrolling like the Gestapo and openly assaulting homeless people to run them off. The homeless are members of our community as much as anyone else, and my kids watching them being assaulted by trumped up security guards is still my kids witnessing violence perpetrated by “authority” figures, which is not the lesson I want them learning. Also, there really should be a nice, large awning in the waiting area for the train pick up to protect against the elements like the beating sun or pouring rain or snow, but apparently the designers from the city never intended to use the train themselves, and therefore didn’t think of that, because who cares if a bunch of average Joes die of heat stroke or get sopping wet on thier way downtown or to work, right? The tourists and day outing people I’m sure are also minimized since the trip in is such a drag. Cool train and all, sure, but who wants to ride it when it’s designed like a prison transport with those uncomfortable hard seats with no padding and looks like something out of Blade Runner.
The building is really cool, but I find it oddly amusing that the locals always want to point out its most gruesome and violent feature- the almost century old bullet holes from the Valentine’s Day massacre. It’s like… “ welcome to our beautiful city, have you seen our crime yet?” And then they wonder why no one wants to live here and even the chiefs and the Royals are talking about leaving, but they blame the homeless, while the biggest destructive forces of thier town wears three piece suits and works at city hall. Go figure.
Anyway- nice old rectangular building with armed guards and chipped exterior. Even the name...
