The desk attendant when we checked in was aloof and unfriendly. He may have said 10 words and looked at us once while we were checking in. We then went to our room to find a strange smell and hazy atmosphere, which we assumed meant that someone had recently painted. We unpacked and hoped the smell and haze would dissipate. Shortly after we unpacked the front desk called and asked us to switch rooms because ours was being worked on and had chemicals in the bathtub. We moved to the new room and found out the next day that our shower drained rather slowly; by the time we checked out it drained so slowly that I had water up to my ankles and the tub was still full when we left. (I informed 3 different staff members of this problem and was assured they'd fix it for the next guest, but none of them seemed aware of the problem, so I can only conclude that it was never communicated to management until we left.) We did receive $25 off of our stay as compensation for the drain issue.
The morning we were due to leave I requested a late check out because my conference ran until 2:30 and my wife needed to keep her feet up (she was 32 weeks pregnant at the time). The woman at the front desk said her manager wasn't in yet (although he was supposed to be there 30 minutes prior), but that we could check out at 3:00. My wife was awakened by a staff member who walked into the room (apparently to clean) in spite of a "Do Not Disturb" sign and before the normal 11:00 check-out time. She got up and bolted the door (I had left earlier in the morning and couldn't bolt it on my way out), but staff tried the door three additional times before we left. When my conference ended and I was making my way back to the hotel (at 2:40) my wife called and said that the man who had checked us in to the hotel had just called the room and said she needed to get out in the next 5 minutes or be charged extra. She explained that we had been approved for a late checkout that morning but was told that was for 2:30. My wife then explained that she was pregnant and the man changed his demeanor and allowed her to stay in the room until I returned.
On top of this, the property is in need of repairs and updating. The elevator was being tiled during our stay, but at least two of the tiles had already cracked even though they were laid the day before. The lobby area and breakfast areas look like they've been recently updated and are top-notch, however.
My recommendation? Skip Best Western and drive north on Main for a couple of miles until you hit the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Union Hill by Marriott. We've stayed with them over 10 times and they are excellent.
In spite of a less than stellar stay (and my recommendation of a higher quality property), I want to clarify that the hotel was not awful; the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the employees were friendly overall (additionally, once the man at the front desk realized that my wife was pregnant, that we weren't trying to cause problems, and that their property had multiple issues during our stay, his demeanor and attitude towards us improved greatly). I wanted to like this hotel, but everything that happened during our stay made it unlikely that we'd return to...
Read moreA quick summary of my review for those skimming through⊠DO NOT STAY HERE. Staff is not friendly. Rooms are in HORRIFIC shape. Area is unsafe. Pay for a room at a nicer hotel down the street. You wonât regret it. We are from Texas and this place was so bad we moved mid trip after the staff refused to take care of us.
I say this with confidence⊠this is in the top 3 WORST hotels we stayed at and we travel all the time. We came up for a 3 night stay to watch the Chiefs on Thursday 9/5. Upon checking in, we asked if they could make accommodations for a king room instead of a double. They explained Thursday was sold out but they could put us in a king room 2/3 of the nights, but we would have to move for Thursday night and then move again for Friday. We told them it was fine and we would stay where were. Everything was okay. Then we got to the room! Dirt and hair in the corners, the ceiling was falling in, the toilet wouldnât flush, and they had 2 sheets on the bed instead of a comforter. My boyfriend said something to them about the toilet/ceiling scenario and asked since we were staying 3 nights total if they could swap us to another room for the duration of the stay. They refused again to swap us and said âwe could use the facilities in another room but we would have to be out by noonâ. But we would also have to shower on Thursday night and might need the bathroom???? This was a ridiculous proposal. Swap us rooms, and get maintenance in there to fix what is obviously wrong.
We booked down the street, spending an extra $200, and we were able to check in at 10am after we explained our situation. Victor has helped us multiple times and quite literally does not give a crap about anything. He tried to lie when we were leaving and say âno I tried to get yâall accommodated yesterdayâ. That is not true. If he wouldâve offered us a different room for our stay, we wouldâve moved. As guests who are staying 3 nights, we should not have to move multiple times just to have our basic needs met. Move us, get maintenance in there, and then give the room to someone who is there for a night.
Itâs disappointing. I work in the customer service industry. And Victor was a great example of an employee that you do not want representing âyour brandâ. I know people are complicated, but we were not. We should have functioning amenities. That is the BARE MINIMUM. And trying to justify things and your lack of accommodation is wrong. Some solution couldâve been figured out.
With all that said, I attached a picture of the ceiling. Iâll spare you the picture of our backed up toilet. Do not...
Read moreI had no issues checking in. Check in was smooth. However, the hotel lobby smelled like marijuana. Greg, the night audit, kindly gave my daughter a bottle of water.
As soon as I got into our room, I called downstairs because there was a fire alarm chirping, like the battery needed to be replaced. I spoke to the Greg, and he kindly came up to our room and changed our alarm battery. However, after he left, the chirping continued.
I then called downstairs and Greg said he was busy with a customer. And he asked if the chirping was bothering me. I informed him that it was. He said ok, and heâd get back to me after the customer. But he never did.
I believe the chirping was from the room adjacent to ours. I then called downstairs 3 times over 20 minutes and no one answered. The phone rings and rings and then the calls go to a voicemail asking me to leave a message. Eventually, after about 1.5 hours of enduring the chirping, and with no one answering the phones, I had to physically go downstairs to the lobby around 10pm. No one was at the front desk, but I did discover Greg standing outside.
He quickly came into the lobby, and I informed Greg the chirping was ongoing and I was not able to rest. I asked if we could switch rooms to somewhere different in the hotel. Instead, he grabbed a battery and we headed to the room next to ours and he replaced the dead fire alarm battery in that room, resolving the ordeal. At least we thought the ordeal was resolved. I went to bed but was woken up around 6am because the chirping from the fire alarm started up again. Something must have been wrong with the fire alarm. It was a restless night for me and my family.
The room itself was comfortable enough. However there is no swim pool. But, there is breakfast, gym, and wifi. There is also free parking. Overall, I donât think Iâd stay here again because it should not have taken 1.5 hours and several attempts for the issue I had to be resolved. And then have the issue return again in the middle of the night was the worst.
Additionally , the hotel is dated and needs better ventilation to get rid of the odors. The bathroom is also in disrepair. Please see the attached photo of the bathroom floor.
I thought Wyndham hotels were supposedly a good brand but apparently not? Not sure what the deal is with Wyndham anymore; Smokey halls, Marijuana odors, batteries needing replacement, broken bathrooms, and inattentive staff.
I was debating between this place and a Marriott at the Country Club Plaza. I chose wrong this time, but next time Iâll select...
