Today, my membership was revoked for telling other members about being bullied by a staff member named Jeff. Cam, the manager said he warned me not to tell anyone else and I was no longer welcome since I refused to keep quiet about it.
So here is an account of what happened and why it matters:
In June 2017, when I went to the Everybody Fitness by the Dayton Mall, I was accosted and harassed by Jeff, who is now working at the Woodman location.
The bullying began at our first encounter. When I smiled and said hi, he just glared at me and didn't say anything. He watched me scan my keycard and walk into the locker room only to stop me as I came back out to tell me I needed to go get my keys and scan in. I just said ok and got my keys again and headed back to the desk to scan again. I asked if I had done it wrong the first time, and he became irate with me for questioning him and started yelling at me that I had a bad attitute and was not welcome in his gym and I needed to leave. Of course this was not the case; I was being extremely careful because he was obviously angry from the moment he laid eyes on me. But I knew better than to even say as much. I just got my things from the locker room (once again) and went upstairs to the daycare to get my daughter. He followed me up there aggressively telling me not to leave and that he shouldn’t have said all that. But even this was terrifying. I was crying and told him I just wanted to go, but he kept yelling and blocking my way and using more aggressive gestures, even trying to grab my arm at one point. (I think he was trying to get me to react the way he was behaving) but all I could do was cry and I just wanted to leave but he would not let me go. It was frightening and humiliating. My then 3-year-old witnessed the encounter and was crying as well.
I have been discussing this with others and have discovered this apparently happens a lot. I was informed Jeff has belittled countless others, calling them homophobic and sexist names; harassed scores of other women, invading personal space, cursing and spitting; body shaming others and just general bullying, harassment, and name-calling.
I told the manager, Camden, about what happened to me, and wrote letters to the corporate office; and as far as I can tell, no action has been taken. Jeff is not only still working with Everybody Fitness; he has moved to the Kettering location where I routinely workout.
On Monday, December 3, 2018, I came here to work out; and as I was warning a fellow female patron about what happened to me, Camden approached us and pretty curtly told me that he "would appreciate it if I would stop talking about this, especially in the gym”. He said it “had been handled” (whatever that means) and that needs to be the end of it. And he didn’t appreciate me bringing it up.
So please help me to make sure others know where their security, and that of their children may be at risk. Not only is Everybody Fitness aware this is happening, but they would appreciate it if you would not talk about it, especially to other members of the gym, the very people who need to hear it most.
But I know that where there is a threat to others, we can (and absolutely should) speak up, especially when we are told to keep it quiet. Thank you for...

Any questions about the contract are directed to their financial collections company. No one from Everybody Fitness will call you. You are directed to the financial company. Basically, they want your money and they don't want to deal with you personally. They also give a free trial memberships. Once the free trial is over, the customer is automatically, and without their full knowledge, signed up for a contract.
As if this wasn't scandalous enough, when EB closed the Bigger Road location, they were still selling memberships to people who believed Bigger Road would be their gym. The salespeople did not inform the new customers that the gym was closing. Some of these people showed up a few days later to see the door locked and the business close. This is not how businesses should be run. The value of the dollar should not exceed the value of the customer.
Also, they regularly close gyms in an attempt to consolidate everyone into larger gyms which are further apart. For example, they recently closed the Bigger Road location. Notice was given to the clients via a sign posted at the check in desk. NO e-mail was sent. NO personal contact with those adversely affected was made. The sign claimed the new facility was bigger and remodeled. One stop into the Woodman facility will let you know that remodeled is relative. The remodeling is incomplete at best and the facility overall is dirty. The counters in the bathrooms have holes in them where plumbing was changed and the toilet tanks have holes in them too. The carpets are dirty. They pained the facility red and black, the EB colors, but left the purple and white accents and accessories from Premier. The machines (cardio and weight) are extremely close together.
The company also sold functional training classes based upon the functional training area at Bigger Road. The area at Woodman is 1/4 the size and is shared with another training company doing functional training. Shared. Equipment. Tiny space. Shared. When the functional training packages were sold at Bigger, the sale was based upon the large, private, well equipped area at Bigger.
This company does everything they can to take money from its customers while providing zero customer service. A phone call to the corporate office nets only two choices- accounts payable which is a voice mail and accounts receivable, the bill collection entity. You cannot talk to a person. They...
Read moreAfter graduating from UD, I knew I needed to find a new gym in the area. I tried out three other gyms, but none of them felt like the right fit. As I began my master’s at UD and realized I’d be in the area for the next 3-4 years, I joined Everybody Fitness Kettering, and I truly couldn’t be more grateful.
I still remember walking in and meeting Cam, who was incredibly kind and gave me a tour of the gym, explaining their unique machines. One of the most memorable moments was when Cam demonstrated how to use the belt squat machine, (which initially intimidated me!) At the time, I was still relatively new to the fitness world, I appreciated how Cam never made me feel uncomfortable or self-conscious. Instead, he was genuinely excited for me to join and begin my health and wellness journey. I was SO grateful that he took the time to explain and answer questions regarding the 3-year contract, which actually fit my needs perfectly :)
As someone who has been a part of this gym for a little over a year, I love the investment I make in myself each month and staying committed to showing up consistently. I’ve loved it so much that this past March, I upgraded my membership for 24-hour access, which has made it easier to balance my gym time with a full-time job and grad school.
Since joining, I’ve made countless friends, introduced others to the gym, and even met my boyfriend while working out. It’s been so fun to have a lifting partner and to share something we both enjoyed doing separately, now together! I’ve even been able to recruit five others to join this location, making it feel like a true cliché “home” for me!!
Day in and day out, Cam and the team have been incredibly supportive—wishing me a happy birthday during my birthday lift, encouraging me on PRs, celebrating when I landed a new job, and cheering me on during tough days. They genuinely celebrate my wins both in and outside the gym. I’ve never felt more confident, and I feel so welcomed to be bettering myself alongside close friends, newfound gym buddies, and the consistent, supportive team at Everybody Fitness...
