This is a beautiful little park on the way to Fort Zachary Taylor. There are walking/bike paths, places to sit and watch the water, and even a series exercise stops with equipment where you can get your workout taken care of for the day.
Here is my warning though....
There is a really nice path here along the water, which you can take past the Coast Guard ship and along the Truman Annex. Unfortunately, the powers that be have chosen not to close off a gap in the walkway that could connect you from Truman Waterfront Park all the way along the Truman Annex to Mallory Square. That means that you CANNOT walk from Truman Waterfront Park along the water to other parts of Key West. Seems like it would be a great addition to the beautiful city to put a simple little bridge here across what we came to call "the cursed gap" so that people can walk along the water from Mallory Square all the way to Fort Zachary Taylor without having...
Read moreThis is a cool park for kids. We wanted somewhere we could let our toddler burn off some energy and found this place on the map. It's nice, the equipment has shade over it which is necessary in Florida otherwise it becomes too hot to play on. The splash pad is really cool, and I wish there was one like it near where I live. It was busy in a good way, lots of kids to play with, and still available benches for the adults. The benchs are not in shade, so be prepared for that. You will bake out there if you don't have sunscreen or some kind of cover for yourself.
There's a boat docked there you can do tours on and the ecocenter is right there. I wish I had known about both, we got there right around 4 when they both closed and neither will be open the rest of our trip. They seem like great places to take kids too so really you could do a whole afternoon in this little section if...
Read moreWe discovered an incredible Coast Guard ship that served in WWII, and it was amazing to be able to hop on board. The ship is maintained by a non-profit organization, and the best part is that you can enjoy a drink while sitting and relaxing on the deck. We stayed until sunset, which was absolutely stunning!
Additionally, the boardwalk nearby is perfect for a bike ride, offering a great breeze and fantastic views.
If you’re in Key West, make sure to check out this spot. It's even better than the famous Mallory Square for sunsets, as it offers unobstructed views and a more relaxed atmosphere. Plus, the area boasts plenty of greenspace, a shady playground and splashpad, a weekly farmers market, a fitness trail, and the fascinating Coast Guard cutter museum. Truly, some of the best things in life...
