I have always loved being in Key West and I have already been there thrice. It was coming down like crazy when we were there this time around but I thought Key West looked even more jazzy as the streetlights shone and reflected on the streets lined with Gulmohar trees and their red flowers in bloom.
It looked just magnificent. It was getting dark and we were trying to find a place to shelter from the rain and also get something to eat. We stumbled on this place, Rams Head Southernmost and we made the right decision. It was our first time there and we really liked the ambience of the place, like a tiki bar. It was fairly occupied when we got there. They have pretty antique looking things like the huge bladed fans on the ceiling like chopper blades and they have a fountain next to the bar and the sound it made was meditative. We ended up ordering Flatbread chicken, fish and chips, shrimp quesadilla and Simple Mahi. Our food took a little while as the server had accidentally dropped our food on her way to our table. Couldn't have blamed her as it was raining and the place is kinda outdoors and was probably slippery. But a lady approached us, probably the manager, and apologized for the delay and explained the situation. She offered us drinks. That was really kind of her. Turns out they have their own brewery and we went along with her suggestions. We got a couple of glasses of Rams Head IPA and Backstage IPA, a bloody mary and a mimosa. She actually got me a couple samples of the two IPAs before I ordered them. The IPAs were awesome. They were bursting with hops and flavors and aromas. The bloody Mary was perfectly balanced and had amazong notes. The mimosa was bubbling with the champagne inside it. They were awesome.
It was worth the wait when the foods arrived. The flatbread chicken had awesome barbeque sauce base and the it tasted amazing. Everyone loved it. The shrimp quesadillas was great, too. Would have loved a little more flavor in it though. The fish and chips was a great way to enjoy and have a conversation on the table. The simple mahi had mahi a little less grilled and a little less flavor notes to my preference but was succulent. I loved the rice that came with it. The veggies were grilled good too. We just enjoyed our food and everyone around seemed to do so, too. Everyone was laughing and smiling and seemed to be having a good time. I would definitely go back to this place again. The prices are what you would expect in Key West and you probably would have to anticipate some wait time in your food but considering how good this place is, it's worth the wait. The bathrooms were clean, too, even with all that crowd. Would definitely go...
Read moreWorst service and food we’ve had in years. A party of 7, we arrived at 3 and were seated. A table of 6 arrived a few minutes after us. We were given menus and not greeted by our server for 10 minutes. At that time we placed our drink order. The table that arrived after us already had drinks. 10 minutes later our server came by to tell us our drink order had not been placed. I looked over at the table that was seated after us and they had food! My dad tried to get the attention of another server. I then asked to speak to a manager, who never showed up. We received our drinks 25 minutes AFTER we were seated. We were still polite to our server, but extremely frustrated. We placed our order for entrees and apps at the same time. A few minutes later, we all ran out of drinks. We were not asked if we wanted more. By this point I was pretty upset and said our apps were going to come out with our food and if they did, I was going to send the apps back. The apps came out first. We ordered crabby tots. I imagined we’d be able to pick up tots with crab and cheese on top and eat them. We got a pile of hash browns with cream cheese and crab. We spooned piles onto our plates. It was not what we were expecting. By this time I was ready to go. Our food came out a few minutes later. 3 of us ordered “pressed Cubans”. The meat on the outside was dried out. They were not “pressed” as advertised. They were dry and cold. I worked as a chef for most of my career and knew right away that the food sat in the kitchen for a while before coming out. Likely because the apps and food were sent in together and were finished together. We didn’t even eat the cold fries.
There is no way anybody in charge at this establishment cares at all. That was completely evident. 245 dollars later, we left extremely disappointed. THAT is putting it lightly. We saw another table get up and leave after ordering drinks and waiting. We watched people stand at the host stand for minutes without being greeted. I wanted to let people know at the front that it was not worth it. I rarely write reviews, but had to for this place. A complete waste of money. Whoever was managing on Thursday 12/28 has no business managing a subway, let alone a restaurant in Key West. The buck stops with the owner though. Thanks for providing us with the memory of the worst food and service I’ve experienced in years, quite...
Read moreFour of us came for dinner because it had good reviews and the menu looked great. Well maybe the reviews were more for breakfast because ALL four dinners ordered, the seafood was over cooked and dry. Our waitress Valentina was nice and attentive and we did tell her about the issues. She said she would let “them” know. We did verify when she came back to our table with the receipt that she let “them” know and she said yes she did. You would think someone in management would’ve came by to at least apologize for the bad experience but we got nothing.
Food- portion sizes were good.
Crabby tots appetizer- Good with good flavor.
Fish & chips- Fish was over cooked and dry, French fries were good.
Lobster Mac & cheese- Not much flavor and Lobster was over cooked and tough.
Seafood risotto - Good flavor but the Mahi Mahi was over cooked and very dry, couldn’t even eat it without drinking water.
Mahi Mahi sandwich- Was ok but the Mahi Mahi was a bit overcooked and dry. Was expecting the risotto side to be hot but it was cold.
Atmosphere- Nice outdoor seating with lots of cool things to look at. There was someone on a guitar playing music which was a bit too loud since we were sitting near the front of him but he did stop playing shortly after he arrived so it was fine.
Bar- Large bar that you can sit at outside and there were two painkiller drinks ordered they were good. Not the best in town but good. So we requested more Creme de Cocoa to be added and the waitress brought over some extra to add to the drinks without hesitation which was very nice. That made the drinks great.
Bathroom- Men’s had no hand towels.
I would not recommend dinner and would...
