My family and I previously trusted Firehouse, but due to gross over-charging and death of our puppy we will no NEVER use or recommend this vet again. Our family has used Firehouse for years and trusted multiple pets to their care, but it wasn't until an emergency arose that we realized our tragic mistake. We took our 8 month old puppy to Firehouse after she got into medication. After minimal treatment from Firehouse: Consulting poison control $157.45 Nausea medication Cerenia $64.97 IV fluids $103.40 Hospitalization from 7:30am-5pm that day $169.20 CBC blood work $90.40 Vet scan blood work (98.70 twice) $197.40 Blood pressure twice $72.00 Exam $55.00 Total bill $909.82 SERIOUSLY! BLOOD PRESSURE, BLOOD WORK AND FLUIDS FOR $909!!! Our puppy was released saying she should be fine. Less than 30 minutes after leaving the vet she was having difficulty breathing, so we called the vet and were told we should get a humidifier that it was probably congestion. Within 30 minutes of that she was struggling to catch her breath at all and we were rushing her to Austin to the emergency clinic. When we arrived the clinic they took every action they could including everything listed below. Emergency Room Fee $40.00 Exam EC - Referral Patient $28.00 Hospitalize ICU Level 2 Per Shift $24.30 ECG Telemetry per 12 hrs $29.23 Electrolyte Panel In-House Idexx $40.40 Radiology/2 Views $174.10 IV Cath Replacment $41.50 Coagulation Panel (PT & PTT) IH $121.00 Propranolol HCL Inj 1mg/ml per ml $28.90 Acepromazine Inj 10mg/ml $30.02 Lidocaine Inj 20mg/ml $40.04 Furosemide Inj 50mg/ml $31.32 Furosemide CRI Syringe Pump 50mg/ml $50.88 Blood Glucose Multiple Glucometer IH $15.00 PCV & TS IH $21.00 Nasotracheal Oxygen Tube Placement $45.30 Oxygen Via Nasal Tube q4hrs $20.00 Lidocaine 20mg/ml Fluid Additive $10.44 Enrofloxacin Inj 22.7mg/ml 5.8871 $49.43 Unasyn Inj (Ampicillin Na/Sulbactam Na) 30mg/ml $42.49 Individual Cremation (2 -30#) PR $207.90 Total Bill $883.35 ($1091.25 inc. cremation) What the billing for the emergency room vet won't show is that we were not charged for the CPR that they performed or the time that they took to contact poison control to attempt to locate our case and try to see if there were any way to save our little girl. We know that there is no way to know what might have been if Firehouse had performed chest x-rays and seen our little girls lungs surrounded by and full of fluid. Or if they had treated her with Propranolol the recommended drug to counteract the medication that our puppy got a hold of. But what we can say is that had we taken our little girl to the emergency vet first thing in the morning, rather than Firehouse, she would have received the treatment she should have from the start and without being price gouged. Maybe that would have been enough to save...
Read moreI took my dog here for several years. I always felt that they were overpriced, but I've always been willing to pay top dollar to make sure my dog is taken care of. The staff here are very kind, but after a recent experience, I will no longer be taking my dog here.
My dog started having episodes of pain that increased in frequency and severity over a short period of time, though there was no clear cause for them. After spending $2800 on labwork and other tests with no clear diagnosis, they referred her to a neurologist who wanted $8000-10000 for an MRI. I did not feel that they explored enough for us to take this leap, and it felt as though they were just passing us off onto someone else. I sought out a second opinion with Kindred Animal Hospital, and they were able to diagnose her and begin treatment within 20 minutes of seeing us...all for 10% of what we paid at Firehouse.
Turns out my dog had a partially herniated disc in her spine, which was the cause of her episodes. I had taken her into Firehouse back in September of 2024 (it's currently May of 2025) for back pain and yelping when being touched, where we spent another $1000+ on tests and labwork that came back with nothing. They stopped exploring what was wrong at that time as she was otherwise stable and they basically told me "she'll be fine". Turns out my poor baby had been in pain for 8 MONTHS, getting so much worse over time. I put her through so much stress and testing just for them to pass us off onto the next person, who would have charged us upwards of $10000 for something that she didn't need, after charging us nearly $4000 total.
The money part sucks, but I can always make it back. However, what I can't get past is learning how long my dog had been in pain with nothing said or done about it. A simple physical exam told the vets at Kindred what was wrong, and she is now back to 100% after 2 weeks of treatment and medication.
After reading other reviews, this doesn't seen to be an isolated case. Please be wary when taking your animals here. You do not get what you pay for...
Read moreWould not recommend their lead vet or this establishment. Firehouse determined our cats gender as a female, we took her in to another place to get spayed at a lower cost and they opened her up and said she was a male who was already neutered. Now he is healing up for no reason other than Firehouse said he was a she. Firehouse got the gender wrong, during an initial check up. We took this cat in back at the end of January to get him out of the freeze, he was skin and bones and clearly sick. Someone else brought this cat this clinic to get checked out, and get vaccines and blood work done. They said it was a female around 5-6 years old. Suggested liver disease, but started her on antibiotics for parasites. Their up-charge in pharmacy products are a complete rip off, they tried to charge me $67 for 50 ml of Albon…Chewy and HEB have 60 ml it for $26.48, got it there, more of it for waaay less. Same with the other antibiotic, Zeniquin. They charged $112.65 for 25 mg, 21 tablets.... when Chewy has it for 25 mg tablets, 30 of them for $63. How horrible of them when people are just trying to take care of animals. So if you have to go there in a pinch, ask for a written prescription from them and get it elsewhere at a reasonable cost. So sad considering many turn away medical treatment for animals because of the cost and for a vet to rip people off this much could make the difference whether one goes through with treatment or not. I understand an up charge for convenience and making sure regulations are met with the medicine for each pharmacy, but more than double, almost triple the cost of other notable pharmacies is egregious. Firehouse determined our cat was a female, took her in to get spayed at a different place, they cut her open only to find she was a he who had already been altered. Now our cat is healing for 2 weeks and went through all of that due to their inadequacy. They more than double or triple their medications, get them elsewhere. Just horrible that an animal care facility would operate like this. Do...
