Big 5 Sporting Goods — Attraction in Lakewood

I have been searching for the perfect home gym and found it online, but each store either had very lengthy lead times or they were sold out. When I saw that it was in stock at Big 5, I was quickly disappointed that every store within a 100 mile radius showed that it was actually out of stock. So, I thought I'd call the Lakewood store and I am SO glad I did! I spoke to Shannon who found the item in their system, but had an odd notation next to the SKU. So, she took down my number, so she could research what that meant and said she would call me back in 30 minutes. She called sooner than that and said she not only located it in Arizona, but asked the sales person to make sure all 3 boxes were available, (because the home gym comes in 3 packages). When the 3 boxes were confirmed, Shannon asked them to go ahead and transfer it up to her in Lakewood! While I spoke to her about this, she even advised me what their truck schedule was like and that it should only take a couple of weeks and free of charge! She also extended the sale price, since it will arrive after the sale has ended and she gave me a tip to enroll in the Big 5 e-Team to get an additional 10% off! Shannon definitely went above and beyond with her customer service. She is very knowledgeable, professional and although she was busy with in person customers asking her questions while she was talking to me over the phone, she handled all of us with patience and maintained complete friendliness! We need a lot more "Shannons" in the customer...

I had a wonderful experience with a worker at this store. I wish I caught her name. She was clearly new, still learning the manager's policy and the POS system, but she greeted us at the door, asked engaging and appropriate questions, led us to the products we needed, and even chatted with my daughter and helped us with checkout. She was really warm and helpful and did a great job. She's got great customer service skills.

The manager, though! She left a sour taste in my family's mouth. Both my husband and I watched this woman use a really unnecessary tone, often sarcastic, when giving instructions to her workers. She decided to extensively correct the woman working with us IN FRONT OF US, making us very feel very awkward and uncomfortable. The poor worker who was working so hard for us was getting nitpicked and corrected in front of customers was doing a great job, was clearly new, was clearly learning, and was not being approached with the dignity and respect she deserved.

Management needs some leadership retraining. She single handedly took a really pleasant experience, pooped on it, and left us leaving...

This is my go to store for just about anything sport related. Big 5 is a small store but jam packed with useful, handy, unexpected items you know you have to have! This is not a humongous store where it takes forever to find something, and there are no creepy, dead taxidermy animals staring at you, BONUS! Since the store is small you can easily find what you're looking for! The clearance is the best and Big 5 carries a lot of brand name items. The staff will call around for you also to find an item and Big 5 has an online store. The staff are so much fun, helpful and knowledgeable. Want to know about fishing, ask for Craig from Texas!
