I am a nurse here on a travel assignment and unfortunately took ill with severe pain. I was diagnosed with a kidney stone and stent was placed at another hospital in Maryland. One week later I was in severe pain again and was advised by my work staff to go to UM as they were a level 2 trauma center and would more than likely have the equipment needed to remove the stone. I arrived to to ER Sat at about 6:00pm. I was triaged quickly with test ordered. After test completed I was instructed to wait in ER waiting area. I sat there till I was call back at 10:04am Sunday with a pain of 9. No one ever re-took or vitals and everytime I asked when I would be seen I would rudely be told I was waiting on the doctor. I could barely walk as the pain was so bad. I was seen by the doctor and a med student whom where nice and kept apologizing. Needless to say the shift changed and everything I told the previous team had to be repeated. My mom had to fly in on an emergency flight as they were worried about me being in MD alone and the time it took for me to be seen. I kept calling the Patient Advocate number but they are not open until Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30pm. I was admitted but they did not have a room so I would have to stay in the ER until a room was found. I was blessed to be in a room in the ER as I saw several patients in the hall way awaiting different things some had IVās running and appeared to be very sick. That night of my first admittance was horrible. The young ER nurse would not address my pain but tell me my pain med was not due yet. The previous nurse had phoned and messaged the doctors hours prior to change my pain med from morphine as it was making me very nausea. I had to politely tell the nurse that I was a nurse in fact of 20 years and what she needed to do. Her response was the physician have the entire hospital and it takes time. Well 6 hours is past any protocol to return a message. The night shift was very loud and not from being over worked but for playing around chatting with each other sitting around the nurseās station. I pressed my call light for someone to enter the room hours later. I asked for crackers and ginger-ale for nausea. I specifically asked to not have Zofran at this time. The nurse looked at my IV ABT that was hanging and fumbled with the bag then exited the room. This drew my attention to the IV Bag. I noted it had been hung hours prior and was not even infusing. Late my nurse came in and injected something into my IV. I asked what it was and was told it was Zofran. I never asked my nurse for Zofran so she had to get the message from the previous person that answered my light. I told her I did not want that. She had already given it. I told her about my IV not going and she re started it. I could not wait until the morning nurse cane back because she was amazing and very caring. She was very attentative and stayed on top of my pain. I was to have different things done that ER nurse could not do it had to wait until I was admitted to a floor sad. I spoke to the Patient Advocate Person whom was extremely nice and helpful. Later that evening I was moved to a floor. I was thankful for that. My nurses were amazing and they took very good care of me. Discharge time. Strangely a case manager came to me and was asking questions. We found out I was never registered my ID had never been taken and someone that was from Washington had my exact name and dob scary. The CM corrected the issue and took my ID. When I was discharged I was not given my work release even though the student doctor asked me twice about the return to work date. I later found out that my meds were called into a CVS in Washington. No one ever confirmed my pharmacy with me. This pharmacy is an hour away from where I am. I called the nurse I had whom obtained the correct pharmacy and sent the message to the doctor. The pharmacy closed at 7:00pm and still did not have my medicine from the dr. Itās 9:33am the next day and pharmacy still does not have the medicine. I am in pain all over again without meds. Do NOT I REPEAT...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was admitted to the ER on 10/24 and I had a neckbrace put on and numerous other tests had to be performed. No bra and I was topless with a sheet over me. There's a pervert custodian who "fake" sweeps the floors, but is too busy leering at you to really be cleaning. Was he given some kind of training so as to NOT stare? I was objectified and made to feel beyond uncomfortable. Why was this man staring at me? I told a nurse that I was uncomfortable with him going back and forth staring at me so he closed the curtain. Get ready for this--the custodian busts in my room, with NO announcement that a man was coming in, to stare at me again, and tinker with some electronics on the wall. NOTHING was wrong--he wanted to be nosey and keep staring. It was freezing and would be another hour or so, before I was given a gown. The only reason why I was provided the gown is because I had to ask for it. Mind you, there are not "rooms" with doors, it's just different areas with curtains. I was in trauma due to a car crash and out of it, drowsy and delirious. Nobody even bothered to give me the dignity to close the curtain unless I ASKED. Next, here's where the malpractice part comes, 1 Dr--pardon me, he was NOT a Dr, he was a physician's assistant stated ortho would have to "Set" my fractured hand. An hour later someone else told me "it's not as bad as we thought." Nothing changed, so did it improve in the 2 hours I was there? I was in intense pain, and no splint or even ace bandage provided. The instruction was to "ice it." Now 10 weeks later my hand is a MESS! The bones are popping up everywhere die to their NEGLIGENT, in & out EXPRESS service! My PCP ordered me an MRI because I'm still in pain and worried about the fusion of my bones--and here's the kicker, my insurance denied the MRI. So because of the poor care from UMCRM my hand is a disaster. I now have to request the x-rays and bring them to an orthopedist, and hope it is not too late to adjust the malunion fracture. Next, i'm just curious why my discharge paperwork BLATANTLY lied and states that I was treated by Dr Daniel Leonard Horowitz. I most certainly was not! I get that the PA's are doing the grunt work, but he is the head Dr in charge and should have came to see the extent of my injuries. Like other staff there, this man could not give a damn! Nate (I think was his name is super grouchy.) Maybe he had a long shift, but I don't care. Your job is to be professional, and my patient rights are to be respected, but I wasn't. I was leered at, and given insufficient care, and then the Dr in charge could not be bothered. Does this sound like a hospital you can trust? Next I'm told that Nate was leaving, at least he did have the courtesy to come to my station and inform me that his shift was done and Jennifer Glazer would be taking over. Well, to go along with the unprofessionalism of the hospital, she never bothered to come and introduce herself and the only reason she came by is because I had to request her since I had questions. As I was leaving, mind you I had no pants since I was cut out of mine, I was given a pair of scrubs. The average size for women in America is a size 14. I'm not a 14, I'm a size 10. These pants were the size of about a 4-6. I was embarrassed bc the pants made it up to the bottom of my butt, but did not cover! The male nurse who had been helpful, suggested I put the gown on over! Just a demeaning experience. Why isn't there a larger size? They claim that you will receive an automated call in 2 days to "check-in," but I never received ANY call. I have a been chronically ill since I was 16 so I can tell you what a quality hospital is that RESPECTS their patients and patients' rights and this ain't it! I emailed Tiarra McClarry the Trauma Manager a week ago and she hasn't responded, nor has patient services. Besides the unprofessionalism, it's the negligent care. I'll be following up with the Dept of Health for the poor treatment and for releasing me without setting my fracture. This place makes a mockery of the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a beautiful Building but with the absolute worse in In-patient care. My mother was in the āAcute Careā over the weekend (7/8-7/10 2022) In the beginning they denied my brother service by trying to kick them out from the ER they went as far as telling him to go to another hospital. (Back story) My mother received a call Friday by her primary doctor instructing her to go to this hospital to be treated by the hemoglobin specialist and also to receive an āemergency blood transfusion.ā She was entering this ER with a hemoglobin level of 6.0 which is dangerously low and could be deadly. With this information they still denied her care. After a tough altercation between my brother and the staff āVanessa V.ā and āAngelaā in the reception area they finally brought my mother back. When I arrived to swap with my brother due to language barrier. I encountered the two young ladies āVanessa V.ā and āAngelāand they both had very bad attitudes with very poor customer service and no compassion at all. Fast forward - She was treated by Dr.Daniel and travel nurse Logan once admitted in the ER. The nurse went on to vent about the lack of teamwork. After waiting for hours at 3am this doctor finally approved the blood transfusion. She was there since the afternoon. Her body was cold and she was shaking non stop her skin was green of how pale it was and this was not enough for the approval. We respected doctor orders. We had no choice. Two hours later of transfusion she needed blood drawn again. The nurse was not successful she proceeded to run IV water to help. Around 5-6am she was admitted to the āAcute careā the nightmare in this hospital had just begun. The new nurse she walked in did not greet us, she did not introduce herself. I asked for her name ā RN Janeā. I explained to her my mother needed blood drawn because it was not successful in the ER before being admitted. She simply stated āokā Residence āDr.Aregaā came in and stated they are waiting for the lab results of blood drawn after transfusion. I explained to her the blood had not yet been drawn. She appeared concern and said it will be. Nurse Jane came in a couple of more times with time in between each time I reminded her of the blood draw she continued to just say āokā by regret I fell asleep and so did my mother we wake up to a completely different nurse and doctor. RN Ashleigh and Dr.Johnson. By this time it was 10-11am. I asked my mother RN Jane came in to draw blood and she stated no. I informed both RN Ashleigh and Doctor. Ashleigh proceeded to draw the blood. While all of this happens my mother never received breakfast. I had to press for lunch by following up with the nurse to remind her. She finally got lunch at 3pm. However she did not get a meal for dinner. My mother was hungry and this hospital failed to bring her her water and meals as per usual like in any other hospital that people stay in and sadly not for free. This was the last nurse that we were made aware of. I had to keep calling the nurse station and walking out to the nurse station to ask for the name of the nurse assigned. There was an extreme lack of care from staff. From coming in to fix obstruction in the IV to requesting for me to just turn the IV machine off because no one can come in to take a look. Her arm was swollen with pain. After requesting several times to speak to a doctor to request a transfer to a different hospital due to staff neglect of ADLs and experiencing patient care abandonment we ended up leaving the hospital at 11 am they did not notice until I received a call at 5pm. This is very concerning it appears it took them almost 7 hours to notice a patient left It speaks volumes on the neglect of patient care at this hospital. We passed by all the nurses stations not one said anything. We even saw her technician in the lobby as we were leaving. My mother and I are saddened and highly disappointed with our first and last experience at...
