I recently visited the Fern Dell Nature Trail in Griffith Park and had a fantastic experience. Thereâs free street parking available, and although it can get a bit busy, I was able to find a spot within a couple of minutes. I took my dog along for the hike, and the trail was absolutely beautifulâwell-maintained, clean, and very dog-friendly.
The trail winds through lush greenery, with plenty of shade along the way, making the hike up to the Griffith Observatory enjoyable and comfortable, even in warmer weather. Once you reach the top, youâre rewarded with breathtaking views of Los Angeles and the iconic Hollywood signâdefinitely a sight worth the hike.
Even with a lot of people on the trail, it never felt overcrowded, and the overall atmosphere was calm and friendly. I also appreciated how safe the park felt throughout the visit. Whether youâre looking for a scenic hike, a dog-friendly outing, or just some time outdoors, I highly recommend checking out the Fern Dell...
Read moreThere's a place called TRANQUILITY and it's Ferndell. The beautiful nature walk through the trees , creeks, and sounds of light splashing is one of the most incredible moments of my life. It was nice to put the phone away and just bask in a serene environment with an opportunity to reflect. The lower part of Ferndell is the perfect path for beginners, nature enthusiasts or just to get out in the open. I love that there's a playground so all the kids could leave me be (LOL). I'm also a fan of the accessible entrances from the street, as it makes it easier to locate your car. My only criticism is that this trail needs ACTUAL bathrooms, not outhouses. The outhouses looked absolutely horrible. I recommend using the restroom before coming here! Otherwise, this place is beautiful and I love it.
Note: if you're a pro hiker or super athletic and walk on a regular basis, I recommend going to the upper part of the trail which is not pictured and is close to the...
Read moreThis place is an oasis in the middle of a busy city. I came here with my 5-month-old Yorkie puppy and my bf around 3:30 PM on a Saturday last week and it was super nice. The trail is short but it leads you to an opening where there's a really nice children's playground with restrooms, a BBQ area, and the trailhead of a bunch of other hikes leading to the Hollywood Sign and the Griffith Observatory.
It was during COVID so there were a ton of other people with their friends, family, and dogs having picnics and hanging out in the surrounding areas outside of the trail. There were plenty of space for everyone and I never felt like it was too crowded. I'd highly recommend coming here even if it's just to hang out in the area to be in nature.
Parking can be a bit tricky if you go during peak hours though. Luckily we found street parking right by the trail. Everything was free and we found it a great way to spend your time...
