Updated review: I think my family and I have an obsession with this place now. We have gone four times in one week and I'll tell you why!
Everything we have ordered from there have been super Tasty! So much flavor in every bite! Their both noodle soup is small, but it's the perfect size to enjoy all that flavor plus other dishes that you should order.
Their fried rice, beef jerky, pad ka Pao, pad thai and Tom yum are all SO good! Even their coconut dessert is awesome! They run out by the end of the day since it's made fresh daily.
Parking can be super sucky, but just be patient And drive around a couple times and there's always someone leaving. They do have underground parking, but I have yet to use it.
Bring a sweater! It gets so cold in there! I'm sure it'll be very nice during the summer heat, but it has gotten a little bit too cold where I had to run out and grab a jacket in the car. Lol
Totally worth the drive for us (over 30 mins with traffic)! I can't wait to go back!
Great experience for the first time there! The pad Thai was sweet, but tangy and good! Their coconut. Dessert is awesome! Their boat noodle soup Is smaller than most, but it packs a lot of flavor! I will definitely come back! Not good...
Read moreThis restaurant is by far the best Thai restaurant I have eaten in LA. I ordered the pork jerky and the original Thai boat noodle with beef with medium spicy.
The soup is flavorful, with a beef broth base I believe, salted just right and with just the right amount of sweet and acidity to balance the soup. Noodles were great with a slight bit of chewiness so that it has enough texture but not too much so that it is tough to break. Perfect. The beef in it included beef, beef stomach, and i think a part of the liver(not sure).
The best part of the pork jerky dish was the sauce. It is also balanced perfectly with just the right amount of flavors and a hint of spicy. The pork is marinated so it has a decent amount of flavor even without the sauce. The only problem I might say about this dish is that some of them are either a little overcooked or dry. But overall still really good.
Not gonna comment on atmosphere because it has a cheap price and the main focus is on the food.
Service was fantastic, didn’t have to ask for anything other than the check, my water was never empty, didn’t run out of napkins, and did random checks on...
Read moreThe food at Mae Malai is great. You probably knew that already, and don't need me to persuade you to go when a reputable organization like Michelin or the LA Times has already done so.
I went yesterday to place a to-go order. I noticed then that on their menu, it says that the Original Thai Boat Noodle Soup is $8.95, but when you order it to-go it's $13.95. Why is there a $5.00 (!) difference? I asked the waitress, and she had no reason for me other than "Ask management"
So, Management: Why is there a $5.00 difference when you place a to-go order for the Original Thai Boat Noodle Soup? Doesn't make sense to me. I can't think of what would justify such a large discrepancy. But, I definitely welcome an explanation. Also, if you have something like this on your menu that begs people to ask 'Why?", perhaps you should train your staff to know the answer. That might help retain loyal customers, and not drive them away when tempers flare because there's a seemingly unjustifiable price difference between the same item when ordered there vs. takeaway, again, with no...
