I was just in Jon's 2 days ago. Pretty decent for the location..nice staff..fresh veggies..fish: not so much. This store is rapidly changing.. and not for the better. The unfortunate homeless numbers keep increasing..everywhere really but this may be a target for thieves..little to no security and lots of EASY ACCESS TO BOOZE!!! The 'holiday security' guard was like smoke on MY heels.. as I failed to put 2 tomatoes in plastic baggie..TOMATOES!!! OK.(he thought I could actually fit a round tomato in skin tight jeans!!??..du-uh) BUT..now I want to reduce star count to 3 vs 4. Here's why. AT about the same time .. I witnessed a young blond man stuffing a half gal.tequila bottle down the small of his back!!! (the cheap stuff..they don't even produce quality liquor that size!) Well!! If you ever thought racial profiling didn't exist..Think again! IN MY FACE!! I am female, attractive young forty looking WITH skin Pigmentation. I.E. there is some color to me..mocha..pnut buttery..BLACK -ISH. Janet J. Not Mariah C. (you have to own it!..The security guard was what?. HISPANIC.. OF COLOR?..wires crossed and cowardly, he chose ME over Blondie to harass. LUDICROUS..I KNOW. Again..wires crossed hundreds of years ago. He can't help it..THIS IS AMERICA PEOPLE!! I'M.. Native American, Pacific Islander, Brazil,Panama? by way of AFRICA some 2 million years ago like everyone else!!!..whether you WANT TO BELIEVE IT OR NOT...l happen to somehow to have an Irish great grandmother (..pretty progressive for those days!..go grandma.. go grandma!!). Of course.. I told the 1.guard.2 .his manager and 3.I let the blond slip out..never gave him a 2nd look....
Read moreTerrible news - the owners of this John's International market have killed all the large trees in the parking area... They simply took and quartered them... so what you can see on Google Maps now are the last farewell images of these large, mighty trees... Only mutilated trunks without branches remain. But today I learned from the arrogant, self-confident manager that they will get rid of the trunks too, meaning the torture of the trees is not over yet. These are the very trees that have been growing here for a decade, providing people shelter from the scorching sun and, of course, oxygen... I tried to find out why they lied to me earlier that they weren't destroying these trees (yes, the store management said it was done by the city authorities, I contacted the city authorities and they officially replied that it wasn't their doing). The reason is simple - the head manager of the store arrogantly replied that these trees don't belong here because they didn't plant them and that the trees are breaking underground communications. Really? It's hard to imagine a bigger lying . I'm trying to find a way to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. And, at the same time, I'm trying to save these mutilated tree trunks so they have a chance to stay alive and regrow their branches. So, I will no longer buy goods from a store that destroys the environment. An additional reason - this particular John's International market sells goods that are under sanctions and should not be on store shelves. Dirty business for which we...
Read moreWe've been shopping here for years and enjoying the variety and wide selection of international products, but a few days ago I purchased Ararat jam (from Armenia) that had expired three months before (the expiration date is on the attached round tag) and I noticed that most of the jars were long past their expiration date. The bad jars were duly removed from the shelves (I even helped the employee with this.) Today the shelves were once again filled with Ararat jars of jam, but many had no tags attached to them. When I called to talk to the manager, Jeff Driscoll, he said he'd look into the matter and get back to me. Sure enough, less than five hours later Mr. Driscoll called me and said that there were jars that were indeed being sent back and that all the other jars were newly shelved and that he'd checked the manifest himself to ascertain that they were good (expiring in December 2019). So a shout-out here to Mr. Driscoll for his 5-star customer service, which is ultimately what counts when there is a problem. We will continue to enjoy...
