Went to see a showing tonight at the cinema inside. This was only my 2nd time at the museum, and first time seeing a movie here. When we walked in to buy tickets we were informed that there was a wedding happening. Which was fine, except the staff was kind of pushy about needing everyone out by a certain time and not interacting with the wedding, and we had to ask twice to buy tickets for the showing. When we came back for the showing itself an hour later we were escorted through a different entrance and told once again not to interact with the wedding. Not by one person or even 3, like every person we talked to (or that talked to us unprompted) on the short walk to the cinema was like "wedding" and it felt like we were not wanted. The projectionist was nice and helpful with info on the movies. Movie was great. When we were leaving once again we were directed unprompted by everyone we passed. Which by that point was very annoying, as we were just trying to leave and had not wandered or interacted with anyone. There was a staff member who held the door open, and my partner said thank you. I guess a few of the wedding guests didn't hear him and heckled us on the way out saying "hey thank you so much for holding open that door". It was an exceptionally poor atmosphere to be in. If you don't want people interacting with events (we didn't even want to interact, we literally were just entering and exiting the building) don't schedule events together. Or at the very least warn people on your site or something that an event is being held there. My partner loves the speed museum, but this was not an...
Read moreI went here to see the Supernatural exhibit with my girlfriend. We walked in and this lady directed us to the register. We when to the cashier and she asked if we were there for the museum and we said yes we are. She told us where the art was and we were on our way. We did have trouble finding the exhibit but after asking a worker for directions, we knew where to go. We walked to the second floor where we saw part of the exhibit. It was nice although not really what I was expecting. So we went to floor three because this exhibit was hosted on two floors. As we approached the entrance this older lady stopped us and asked if we had green wrist bands. We were confused and said no. (I would like to add that we were NEVER told by ANY employee about buying green wrist bands for the exhibit prior to this old lady telling us). She then asked us if we are from Louisville to which we also said no. This witch of a lady then proceeds to roll her eyes. I'm sorry sweetheart but Louisville is NOT at the center of the universe. It really rubbed us the wrong way and so we left. Another thing I'd like to mention is how many workers were standing around with their faces in there phones. They did not even care if people walked by they just kept at their phones. It was very unprofessional and a disappointing experience. I would encourage the manager to take this matter up with the employees so they...
Read moreThis was the first time since the Speed Art Museum's addition was built on that we had visited. We were surprised on Sunday's the general admission is free but for the special exhibitions it only cost $5. The older part if the museum was for the most part still the same. They built the new addition into the existing museum nicely. It all seems to fit perfectly. In the older section there is a large area for children to interact and be creative. My 8 year old spent a long time here. She enjoyed making a paper quilt and writing a 7 word discription for a painting. They had an image projection room which all children, and not just my own quite enjoyed. As for the art, the exhibition art was interesting, even though I really don't care for the modern early 20th century style. Their large art collection from the Netherlands was quite representative of that style. And the room with the stain glass was pretty but a little too religious for me, but back in the day it seemed ALL the artwork was based from the Bible. They had a beautiful wood panelled room imported from England. Would have been nice if they had a larger plaque and/or discription as why they had this room. Don't get me wrong, the room was pretty, but just seemed like it was missing something. Over all the Speed Art Museum is a nice...
