Ultimately what pushed me to try Batteries Plus Bulbs was that the price of the battery was very good, the battery quality was good (it's a Duracell Battery - a trusted brand), and I knew that this had the potential of only taking 5 minutes (since my battery is easily accessible). I also wanted to take advantage of the 10% online discount which made my battery purchase slightly CHEAPER than Walmart or other budget options in the area.
Free Installation! The Cheapest Price! High Quality Product! No long lines at a garage!
Everything was going great until expectations met reality.
ALL of my problems could have been avoided if the website were clear on WHEN a technician is available to install car batteries. The website reads: "Visit a local store for a FREE Battery Test and Systems Check - NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED. If you need a new battery, get FREE professional replacement battery installation, on most models at participating Batteries Plus Bulbs locations." After reading this I was under the impression that I could stop by any time ("no appointment needed") and they would be able to swap my old battery out and put in the replacement. As I later learned, NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED ONLY APPLIES BETWEEN 10 AM AND 6 PM!
I arrived the BPB store at 7 PM. I pulled up next to the BPB Truck and while I was getting out of my car one of the workers opened the BPB truck and hit my car. I have an old car so I wasn't expecting anything other than an apology. He just pretended like it didn't happen and hoped I hadn't noticed. I DID notice and this event immediately lowered my opinion of him and BPB.
I walked in the store slightly irritated from the parking lot episode and said I'm here for the car battery I ordered online. The sales associate said "It's ready for you right here." He proceeded to check my information and print out a receipt. He did not ask me if I wanted him to install this new battery or if I had my old battery for them to recycle. So finally I decided to say "You're going to install this one, right?" The sales associate seemed taken off guard and fumbled to say something along the lines of "I just thought you wanted to pick up a battery not have one installed. We only do installs during the day" I then said "So you want me to take this battery home and then come back tomorrow and then you'll install it for me?" He responded, "I'm all alone now because Jimmy (not his real name) is off now - Right Jimmy? (yes) Sorry sir you'll have to come back tomorrow during the day." I lost my temper and said "Well I sure hope my car starts then! I literally have to put my car battery charger on my car about an hour before I go anywhere! The website said 'no appointments necessary' I sure wish they would have said a specific time frame when that was applicable!" I angrily walked out. Fortunately my car did start! Unfortunately, my car started flashing low battery and died while I started driving in the parking lot. I had to turn it off and on a few times for it to finally work. I revved it up and turned off the all lights to make sure the battery could charge a second before merging into traffic. I was lucky that this battery failure did not happen at a stoplight! I would have gotten in a wreck!
I cooled off that evening and decided to look up what time BPB opens in the morning. I was happy to see it opens at 8 AM so I could go in first thing and get my battery finally replaced! I came to the store right at 8:10 AM only to find that they don't install car batteries at 8 AM. "During the day" really means 10 AM- 6 PM!
Finally, 10 AM rolled around and they swapped my battery out in under 5 minutes as I had imagined originally. The technician was polite and professional and did the job well.
If I could roll back the clock and change their website to add a detail like "Car Battery installs only between 10 AM and 6 PM", I would have just have waited until 10 AM to visit BPB and this would have been a 5 star experience just as I had imagined. Instead, this has just been an HORRIBLE experience! 2 stars...
Read moreThe clerk at the store was not helpful at all. I showed hin the email I got saying my order was ready to pick up. The clerk was unable to find my online order and told me I would have to come back the next day. I asked him to call the manager. He did and told me I could wait in the store for the system to refresh. He helped 3 other customers while I waited on the phone with Batteries Plus customer service. I was on the line for over 12 minutes. An agent never picked up. I found the battery with its paperwork sitting in the online order pickup bin. The clerk told me that area was for orders that had already been pulled from the shelves for pickup. I had to show him that the order number on the paperwork matched the order number, battery part # and had my name on it. The clerk was indignant and had a terrible attitude. He repeatedly said - what do you expect me to do? My response was - your job. I was there to pick up an online order, showed him the email stating that the order was ready for pickup and he never looked in the online order pickup shelves. His attitude after I did his job for him went from bad to worse. The whole experience...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE to get your iphone screen repaired. I shattered my screen and brought it into the store because I heard they did it at an affordable price. So I bring the phone in, FULLY functional, and they replace the screen. After a couple days of use, the battery is only last 3-5 hours without any use at all.
So I decide to bring the phone back to the store to have them look at it. They said they would. After about 45 minutes the guy tells me he can't get my screen to turn on and that he needs to hold it over night so that he can work on it longer. Ok......
I come back in the store the next day and he tells me that he no longer wants to try to repair the phone. He puts my old shattered screen back on. NONE of the middle portion of my phone registers to touch anymore. I open the phone up to see what is going on and the digitizer chip inside is broken in half.
I try to bring this up with the employee and the store manager and they tell me that it must have happened when I initially dropped the phone???? Really?? They refuse to fix and/or replace the phone.
Absolutely atrocious customer service. I do not recommend stepping foot...
