I cannot say fully how this yoga studio has changed my life in every aspect, but I'll attempt it. When I first started studying at MLC two years ago, I had practiced yoga for years. I travel a lot for work and have done yoga in a lot of different places. Never had I been to a studio buzzing with such positive, electric and kindhearted energy - both from the students and the teachers alike. It's hard to find good teachers who understand anatomy, the yogic path, and keep you accountable for showing up to your practice in a compassionate form. But its even harder to find a community of yogis who look forward to going to class, come to their mat as individuals and enjoy being around the people they practice next to. Miami Life Center is the only studio to this day where I have found the marriage of all of those things and I can safely say, there is no other place like it.
I haven't taken class with every teacher, but I will say that having met all of their teachers, everyone they hire at the studio is lovely and has a deep dedication to the practice.
Eddy, who does the nighttime Mysore, was there to guide me through my first Mysore practice over the course of 7 weeks (six days a week) and held my hand the entire way. His gentle spirit, incredible adjustments and honesty has been the foundation of my practice. He will go through each posture from point A to point B to point Z and stay with you the entire time, explaining things and willing to grow with you on your path. He also has the patience of the saint!
Patricia, the no nonsense Ashtangi who doesn't let me slack in my practice, is always there to laugh at my jokes and crack a huge smile after class. She holds this practice in high reverence, its truly inspiring. Her on-point adjustments always comes from a place of love and joy for the work she does - she's always striving to make herself and those around her better.
And Emilia, the powerhouse that is this wonderful light of a human, is so incredibly strong and kind all at once. She is grace and ease both in how she guides others and touches their lives as well as in her own asana and spiritual practice. It is such a delight to practice under her guidance.
Then of course the owners, Tim and Kino are amazing! When they're in town giving workshops and leading talks, it is always such a delight. Their homecoming is greeted by the fabulous community that MLC has cultivated and if you are looking for that first and foremost, this is your place.
I'm not saying its easy - you will sweat and breathe deeper than you ever have- even by Miami standards! But it is a journey that is worth the hard work and the discipline you put in, for an outpouring of love and learning you shall receive as...

Since then, I have been longing to have that deep level of participation in a community of devoted yoga aspirants studying and practicing traditional yoga with experienced teachers who have a strong connection to a lineage. Tim, Kino, and the MLC staff are teachers in service to their students sharing their knowledge and wisdom gained from long-term devoted practice. The API is not a fast-track teacher certification, but an opportunity to bring more depth to the aspirant's understanding of the path before them. It is also an opportunity to glimpse the vastness of the cultural history of yoga for perspective in order to place oneself respectfully in the context of what yoga can be if one is not Indian and lives outside of Indian culture. There is so much to learn about this tradition and the API is just a toe dip into the expanse of what it means to be a yoga aspirant. If you want to begin this journey, I can't recommend the MLC API highly enough. If you have the opportunity to do this course in the extended online platform, you will have more time to process what is being offered and will be surprised at how immersive an online experience like this can be. If you are drawn to the Ashtanga practice, but feel intimidated by the facility of ashtanga practioners, I encourage you to look beyond that, and see yourself as having everything you need to begin. If you do, you might fall in love. I am so grateful for the gift of...
Read moreMagic happens here in Miami Life Center. Practicing Ashtanga Yoga here makes such a difference in my day. And repeating the experience everyday is life-changing. I highly recommend the place. It is for everyone. The teachers and assistants pass on the Ashtanga method with humility and reverence. They know what they are doing and do it with the utmost respect for the student and the tradition. I love hearing them speak about how the practice transforms them in such a positive way and how they want to share this feeling with the students. I feel the same too. MLC is the only place that felt like home to me after studying with my guru Sharath Jois. Now, I practice in MLC early morning with authorized teacher Alexandra Santos. She is 100% here for the students. We feel safe, always supported by her warm presence and assists. It is also priceless to be assisted by Esmeralda; she has magic in her hands and Katie too. Whenever possible, it is great to be assisted by the founders of the studio Tim Feldmann and Kino MacGregor. Their teachings are so valuable: a great source of knowledge and wisdom. I am so happy and grateful that they initiated me to this Ashtanga method. I met them in a workshop in London two years ago and ever since just wished to practice in their Miami studio. The place just feels like an abobe of peace and serenity. The books there are also really worth reading. Some are life changing. At the front desk, you will find Erin or JP. They are super friendly....
